There are a lot of sauger in the river. And some big ones to boot.

A few years back back a couple guys were keepin walleyes in the winter that were full of frogs. Needless to say the shop sold out of frog colored swedish pimples in a hurry. grin

i haven't fished the sippi' much but i'm sure glad i've tackled the MN river this year...lots of walleye and saugeye seen caught and landed a few myself....seen a 24" saugeye caught by Dark30 a couple weeks ago on the MN....definitely going to be giving the river much more attention next year over the lakes.

Hey dtro-- Are you still taking the boat out to get at these eyes'? or shore fishing? i also seen you promoting the new lindy vertical jig...do you think that its applicable while fishing from shore or only in a boat to get the vertical jigging effect?

Yes, still fishing from a boat.

I think the spoon was designed more for straight up and down fishing, but it might be worth a try. Some of the areas I like to fish are full of trees and rocks, so casting isn't really an option. Heck even being straight vertical we are still getting snagged quite often. I've found that fishing from shore in these areas doesn't allow me to work the bait as slow as I would like to.

is the Minnesota bite better then the Mississippi bite???

I can not talk about the MN much but have been fishing Pool 2 on the Mississippi. Was out Friday for 4 hours and boated 2 eye's, 2 Small mouths and 2 Saugers. The bass and the eye's were average size but the 2 Saugers were my 2 best at 23 and 24 inches. The bite seems to come and go as I was skunked 2 days earlier. All fish were taken on jigs and gulp alive in 10 to 14ft. I am going to try getting out a couple of times this week but may try the MN for something different and maybe a more consistant bite.

Thanks again Andy for guiding us this weekend. Don't forget the 33" sturgeon, the monster redhorse, and the 8 or 9 pound channel cat we got as well.

It was a pretty chilly day out there both Saturday and Sunday.

Nothing was better than Andy's impression of Iconeli on a 16" walleye....."It's HUGE" as he runs around the boat fighting the fish.

Your welcome guys. Its always fun with good company in the boat.

Well, I'm heading out for another shot in a few minutes. Right after I thaw the boat out smile

I will post the report when I get back.

has anyone ever tried bobbers and "verticle jig " under that? that might work if you knew the depth right?

She was a chilly one tonight. Brrr

Found a few fish. They still seem to be relating to mud flat areas in about 10ft. Quite different from years past during this time period.

Might be time to dig out the ice fishing gear. Too bad it froze up so fast this year. Thanksgiving week was some of my better fishing last year out there.
