Has anyone fished Rush lately? I will be up there this coming weekend to do some fishing. I will be fishing East Rush in hopes to get on some fish particularly walleyes, and panfish. If anyone has any advice they would be willing to share I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

I fish West alot cause I only live a mile away....

I haven't been on East yet this summer.

Haven't heard much from the fish'in reports on that side. You could call Rush Lake Resort, they could help ya, here's their number...320-358-4427

I guess I could try and fish West lake, I ice fished it once this last winter but just pulled our shack out from the public access to where the others were. Anyways if you have a pointer on a general area to try on west I would definately take your advice.

Thanks

I got some reports last night, they have been jigging for wally's on the East side around the 20' holes. They had success with fatheads and 3/8 oz jig heads over the side of the boat. Bouncing 6 to 8 inches off of the bottom. They had better luck in the 15' range.

If you come out of the access on East, you would take a left, going South.

I have not got any report on the panfish on East.

West Rush, we have been catching wally's along the grass island, just North of cigar, and North of the channel. We have been using small shinners with red hooks under a slip bobber in 15 to 18 feet of water.

We also caught a few drifting with lindy rigs over the rock humps in that same area.

Panfish, I would say your best bet would be to fish along the North side of Wilson, or right up next to the rock flat on the Southern half of West.....And if all else fails, fish little Rush, just around the corner when you come through the channel, to the left.

Hope this helps,

Hunter

And I forgot to add, we have been doing better in the morning and the evening hours.......The fella's that were fishing East said the same thing.

Mid day has been pretty dead for wally's........That's usually when we go chase some panfish, they have been pretty consistant all day long.

We just use demon glo jigs and wax worms for those.

Lake is pretty green.....so anything that glows works well.

That is the biggest one I have ever heard of, I did fish west once this last winter and found a really nice crappie hole. got some but no where near slabs like that.

Thanks again

No problem, I live real close to the lake and hit it pretty regular during the week..........

I stay off during the weekend cause of the traffic.

I also got a few friends in the bait biz to get information from.

I might have seen you. Yea I do work the ramp ALOT. I am there every weekend both saturday and sunday. West from 10:30am-2:45pm and East from 3pm-7:15pm.

Yea so just stop by anytime. I am usually bored especially if it is slow.

I don't know if that was you or not..........

But about a month or so ago, there were 2 DNR guys at the ramp on West sitting in lawn chairs on top of that little hill by the sign. They didn't wave me down or nuth'in when I went past.

I was pulling the boat out, I forgot my strap at home, so I just cranked it up on the trailer and drove home.

I got a brown and tan 1988 ext. cab F150 with a tanish older 17' Smokercraft.

I swung by the landing at 2:30 to tell you about the tornado warning.........There were quite a few bass boats there, but I didn't see you.

There was a red jacket hanging on the sign next to some white coolers.

Then, when I got home the rain DROPPED!

I got caught out on West Rush Yesterday in that nasty storm. That was a scary time pulling the boat off with the lightning and buckets of rain. The morning was beautiful on the lake though.

How did ya do Fuzz?

We found a nice rock transition that held some eyes and also ran into a nice submerged (10') bar that held pike. Too bad the storm chased us off.

Well just got back from Rush tonight. Thanks to everyone who gave me some pointers on where to fish it was very helpful. I ended up having some luck in 18 to 20 fow range on both east and west lake. I didnt fish west as much because I was having good luck on East but I did do well in a couple of the spots hunterdown mentioned, so thanks for that. I got a lot of walleyes however, they were all small in the 10 to 12 inch range. They were still fun to catch. I also ended up doing well in the same spots for crappies, perch, sunfish, northern, and some big drum. Kept some nice perch and a few nice crappies. All in all it was a great weekend and a fun lake to fish. Oh and that storm was nasty, I got off the lake 20 minutes before she hit. It was really blowing and coming down. Thanks to everyone again for all the help.

  • 1 month later...

I realize this is an older post, but I need some help. I am looking for an address or good directions to the public access on east rush lake. Thanks

Get off the 35 at the Rush City exit and take a left. Just go, man. The road runs west then turns north. The access is in the north east corner of East Rush. It's hard to miss it.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
