This thread is a bit old laugh But im wanting to hit cannon 1 more time before ice out. Has anyone been out there within the past week or so and knows how travel is? I fished it earlier this season and there was a road, but it kind of just ended in the middle of the lake. I know travel will only get worse, but wondering how it might be for AWD SUV.

If I remember right I believed that there was a path from the man made access down to Cooks point but that was March 3rd when the houses needed to come off. Not sure what the wind and weather has done to it. My cousin when out from Shager Park last Friday was only able to walk out.

Ok thanks. I guess worst case if I can't get on I'll either walk out or drive 5 mins to the next one laugh

What fish do you want to make screamers out of? Perch, white bass, crappies, sunnies? I am not too familiar with this lake for those species but come open water season, walleyes, largemouth/smallmouth bass and northern pikes scream like crazy...pretty much guaranteed caught and released. I have always wondered due to curiosity to icefish Cannon but always kept truckin' along past the lake. smile

I'm going to give Cannon Lake a try tonight. Never fished it before but I drive by it every day to and from work. Any advice (not honey holes)? Where's it best to access the lake in the winter time? Any traditionally sketchy ice areas to be concerned of? I plan on drilling my way out to a spot though, so should hopefully be safe either way! On the DNR HSOforum it looks like a poor Crappie lake, which surprised me a bit.

Not much to report from last night. Fished it for about 3 hours on my way home from work. Worked the edges of the humps in the middle in depths ranging from about 6-12 feet. Drilled about 60 holes covering 3/8 mile and marked 1 fish, caught none, and no bites. Tried minnows, minnow heads, waxies, small jigs, tip-ups, rattling spoons, and a few others. I didn't measure the ice but eyeballing it, I'm guessing it was in the 5-8" range, a couple areas had a few inches of slush over the ice but most of it was snowpacked with an inch.

It was a perfect night to be out though! The sun was warm, the wind was calm, and didn't have to use the portable to stay warm. I have a GoPro camera that I rarely use but brought it along last night and got this kinda cool picture.

Glad i'm not the only one who got skunked last night on cannon.

Found tons of bait, but no biting eyes.

That just may be the best "SELFIE" I have ever seen.
