What should the Wild do in the offseason?

I wouldn't mind seeing Gabby go. He's got the explosive speed but what good does it do you when you have no moves to lay on a goalie. He is so predictable, it's 5 hole or blocker side. His shootout percentage is horrible. Like some of the other comments made, he becomes rattled easily when someone gets physical with him. He gets stood up at the blue line way to easily and during the course of the game you can tell when he is frustrated because he gets lazy and only looks for the break away or scoring chance. I do have to give him credit on the second half of last season he was back checking and played well in his own end. Better all around effort and was effective till the playoffs. I don't know...I think the Wild would be fine without him provided they find another scorer.

It would be tough to replace 41 goals and 42 assists. I think the wild should add some more supporting cast. They are in desperate need of another center. They really drop the ball last year at the trade deadline.

No doubt it would be alot to replace. Especially with this team and how negotiations with Rolston are going. Should seriously look at trade options and get something for Gabby. I am not sure he warrants the big pay he is seeking long term when you compare him to other stars in the league. Tough call. The Wild are thin at the minors too. Trade him and address a few area's at once.

What they should have done can't be done now-that was to jettison Lemaire and Risedork. They are proving their stupidity again this off-season by not (to this date) signing Rolston and don't get me started on other boneheaded deals and/or non-trades they have made. Gabby should be shown the door but they don't have the cajones to do that, but will watch Rolston (who is more of a leader than Gabby ever was) ride off into the sunset.

Rolston is a nice player but at age 35 and him seeking 5 million a year I would not bring him back. There are some decent players out there via free agency. We should have gotten Jokinen. The C we need.

Now that Rolston is gone I heard that the Wild may try to bring back Andrew Brunette and Brunette said it would be his dream to come back and play for the Wild. I say bring him in it can't hurt but they do need to sign some goal scorers

I am a big rolston fan! He was a great leader for the Wild, his only downfall is his age! I would like to see a player like Brunette come in, someone thats not affraid to get physical in front of the net and score goals!!

If the Wild were concerned about giving Rolston a big contract because of his age...35...why would they want to go after Brunette at 34? They have expressed interest in the past that they want to bring him back. I don't get it. Rolston has missed a hand full of games in his three years here and they question his durability now? Come on!! This looks scary for the up coming season. They are content with middle of the pack. The free agents this year are nothing to get excited about so who they going to bring in to make a big contribution? Dougie is now saying he regrets not locking up some of our younger players to the 7 year deals you are seeing out there because they actually save the club money...ie Burns and Schultz. I'm a die hard fan and stood behind a majority of the brasses decesions but now....I don't know!!! Frustrating.

Rolston is not gone yet. They just traded his rights to Tampa which means they are the only team that can negotiate a contract until July 1st. When July 1st comes anyone, including the Wild, can make a pitch for his services. I hope his signs with Tampa so we can get a draft pick for him.

and I bet the direction the team is going to go is backwards.

When was the last time a Mn sports team signed a high profile free agent on the market?

Did you forget about the Vikings - Jarrod Allen, Bernard Berrian!!

Ic your point though it doesn't happen often here in MN

I did forget about those 2, but for once it would be nice if they brought in a high profile player. Doesn't the Wild have lots of $ under the cap to be able to sign a player or 2?

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
