Holy cow, Ed is running away with the channel cats title! Somebody better catch him! Nice job Tom, 2 money cats in 1 night! Boy, I sure hate that I used my mulligan already on flatheads! The folks with 2 fish are in good shape, I think. Fishing seems to get tough in the late weeks, I really have to keep bringing that monkey I think.

I think we need to give Ed a new nickname as he's dominating the Channel Cat division! Nice Job!

Its interesting in the flathead division that "most" folks who caught a flat 1st night didn't the 2nd night, and vice versa. Its getting awefully competitive in there. grin

And nice job Tom on bagging a money fish in each division!

Week 3 should tell a lot. Just remember even if a guy catches a fish every week, he still has to throw one away wink

Until all the mulligans are used up anything is possible.

This has been a blast. I've learned a lot and look forward to every night, thanks guys. I suppose I could start catching some channels now.

I agree, you should fish for channels more. Somebody needs to give Ed a run for his money over there, and plus if you start targetting channels more that gives us a better chance to catch up to you on the flatties. smile

  • 3 weeks later...

Update for everyone, I got the hats in for all league memebers, ( even Harvey Lee gets one) and will get them to Chris sometime next week.

Dtro- Sorry I didn't get over to you in time today, employee concerns take precedent eek

On a side note, the Belle Plaine Catfish Tournement is August 8th, the same as our all-night event so the river will be chocked full of people from Mankato to Shakopee. Could make for a very interesting night.

That will make things interesting. Sounds like a good chance to double dip....Maybe.... if our league wasn't CPR... Which I'm glad ours is.

Well...... Should make things pretty cozy on the MN that night.

I thought that I had heard that that contest was not being run this year.

I guess I heard wrong.

I thought so too, but I guess the DNR issued them a permit. Same people running it, so I hope that they do a better job than in the past.

As far as the League and the CPR rule, we have waived it in the past when others wanted to fish the Mankato Tourney at the same time. If anyone wants to double dip, I see no issues.

I personally won't be double dipping, I see absolutely no reason to support the BP Contest. What a load of [PoorWordUsage]. frown

Chris, I was a die hard of this contest up until about 7 years ago, I got into it with the "big guy" about the big cats dieing in the stock tanks every year. Since then I have boycotted it, along with other catfishing contests. I see no need to do more then measure, weigh it, and picture it, release it!

The video that Dark30 filmed a couple years ago at the contest weigh-in is evidence enough of the complete disregard to this awesome resource we have.

I believe there are ways to have competition without resorting to the killing of fish. King of the Cats Contest, Belle Plaine Cat League, Moore's Bait & Tackle contest are all examples of competition while protecting and respecting the resource at the same time. I see interest in these events growing and growing every year.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not anti-competition or contest, but I have a hard time supporting an event where big fish are going to die.

There are some concered cat guys working to get the BP tourney shut down, or some restrictions put in place. The DNR can pull a permit just the same as giving it out. Sounds like the permit is up to waterville and Hutch. The waterville office has a copy of the flyer that skelly puts out. Hopefully they can at least stop some fish from being killed.

I suggest that anyonw with an interest in catching/preserving the flathead resource starts voicing their opinion to law makers and the DNR. Without public interest the state won't do a whole lot. How many people would throw a fit if trophy muskies were handled the way these cats are?

Can any one say excessive abuse of nature. The fish and any sand bar from carver to henderson feels the impact.
