'Sippi Backwaters (Wabasha)

Recommended Posts

Spring Greetings to all!

Was out on the Alma float this weekend, first time, didn't do too great. On the way back noticed a lot of backwaters that look promising. Anyone know what I can expect to run into out there? What kinda tackle should I be using? What is a good general area I can start? Any info is appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

If your refering to the backwaters along the hwy going in/out of MN/WI it's mostly sunnies, perch, and a few crappies. A few bass as well. Size is normally pretty good. Once summer comes along though it's all mostly just a wet marsh.

Thanks for the reply JB. Its beautiful country out there...i'd like just to sit in the canoe all day and catch sunnies. Thanks again!

Think it depends where you are at. I fished the backwaters between Wabasha and Nelson a couple of times last year and had a great time with the Large Mouth and Northerns. I have been told the Eyes are back there in the spring. Getting the Canoe fixed up myself to spend more time back there this summer.
