Curious to know how many people use crawler shockers or know what one is?

I've seen them and I've heard they work, but I've never tried them personally.

A good soaking is probably just as good.

my dad uses them, they work great, can get worms when you need them- even in the middle of the day

They work ok. I think it is still easier to pick them at night when they are out crawling around. Nice to have around if you need some worms for a quick trip to the river.

Hey guys they are super easy to make all you do is take a piece of 2x2 or 2x4 and drill a hole in the middle the whole length of the drill bit and shove a 3/8" rod in there "note"(make your hole a little smaller so you end up with a friction fit).

Try not to use anything smaller than a 3/8" rod either or it will bend in dryer conditions and something else that helps too is to grind a long point on the end

Take a 110 male end of a power cord and clip one of the two wires off flush with the insulation on the cord and wrap the other wire around the rod a few times and tape it up with electrical tape and plug er in and that's all there's to it.

Then just stick it in the ground a foot and a half or so and watch em come out of the woodwork.

Also make your rod approx. 3 ft in length

I was curious about this so did some Google searches. One thing that came up several times is that sticking an electrical probe in the ground can be fatal. One listing said they usually lost one person a year in their area doing this. A number of people said the worms were severely injured and were not that great for fishing.

I also saw a video in England where they have a worm festival to collect worms by vibrating the ground. Each contestant gets a plot about 10 feet square and uses a variety of objects to make vibrations. The winner collected over 300 worms from his plot in about a 1/2 hour.

Forget the shockers; just go out after dark and pick em up. I got a bunch tonight. I tried a few of my shockers in spots that were thick with them but had a hard time grabbing them. I put a shocker in and went to other spots where they were out farther. When I came back to check the shocker spots I got anywhere from 13-25 worms per spot just laying and waiting. It seems they work better at night when the worms are already at the surface. Been using them for a few years and haven't died yet. Just use (electricty) common sense when around or making them and they should be safe.

I did a night crawler study in college for the DNR and you take mustard powder and water and mix it and dump on the ground and they come out all over...it works great..

we did it during the day, just go to a food coop or something and get mustard powder and mix with water, i'm sure you can google amounts and then got to the woods and scrap a place clean from debris and pour on some and they will come works wonders and seems to have no ill effect on the worms

wow, brings back memories. we shocked em when I was a kid in the 60's. used a nail, extention cord and a 2 x 2. stripped the cord and hooked to the nails with black electrical tape. stretched a few frogs out too. not too bright back then \:D picked a bunch friday night and fed some kittys over the weekend.
