I would like some help with certain areas to fish the river without a boat. I spent alot of time by the dam last year in Rapidan and also in Mankato. It seems that the Belle Plaine area is much better than down here or is it just that noone reports from Mankato area? I would really like to catch some white bass.

The entire river is good. I really do like fishing the Mankato area, its just an hour and a half drive for me and I've got good spots on the Minnesota 20 minutes from my place.

You'll have to put some work in to find good shore spots. There are accessible shore spots all over down there but most folks won't tell you about them, there is just too much fisherman competition for the spots. Seams like if you don't get out fishing in the middle of the afternoon on a weekend in the summer, there are vehicles and people camped at all the spots already. Sucks when you are looking for a place to fish. For that reason, it'll be tough to find info on the forums here.

One shore area down there that isn't a secret is Land of Memories Park. You have access to a lot of shoreline from the park.

As for White Bass... I'm afraid I can't help you there. I've never targeted whities down there before.

I have seen people throwing twister tails around land of memories in the spring. I asume they are fishing white bass. Haven't wittnessed any catching though.

Hey,

I live on the river right outside of kato, its awesome fishing, Most of my spots are private and what hansen has said is true, Land of memories is good, there's a few public spots on the judson bottom (thats where i live) there's some good spots up around new ulm, at the quartzite quarry's off 14 drive in there you'll see the cars etc.....

My best advice is buy a cheap boat, there's not alot of boat traffic on the new ulm to st peter stretch really....i mean there's some but its the same guys all the time....Well good luck and if you ever want to wet aline...let me know...later Rick

people are tight lipped about specific spots on the MN around manakto, especially on the internet. the best thing to do is go and find a spot to fish and you may run into someone that fishes the river often. that is what i did last year. ran into someone in a spot that a buddy told me to try and now we go fishing the river quite a bit together. he was a native of kato too, so he showed me some of his spots. i also fished a couple times with some friends from home that went to school in kato. they had a friend with one time and now he and i go fishing the river quite a bit together too. you never know if or who you will run it to on the river, but they may turn out to be a new fishin buddy that can show you a thing or two about river fishin. otherwise check out google maps with the satellite imaging. zoom in to spots along the river and look for creeks dumping into the river or anything else that makes a spot seem like a good place to try. then mark the directions to get there and hopefully it wont be surrounded by private property.
