I have been having fun the last week or so going with lighter gear and crawlers. I can tell you one thing that the Minni has some good numbers of 1-2-3 year class channels. \:\) Sometimes it's not the size, but how busy they keep you.

I am thinking about throwing out some cutbait with the 58 and showers forecast for Thursday. I have a feeling that this extended late winter is going to make the bite crazy come mid-may or so.

I went out tonight for a few hours, alittle better luck. Little channels left and right. The biggest about 4lbs. But it was more action then I had in the last few nights. It was a good sign. I will be out again tomorrow to try for some more action!

46-47 in the channel and 49-54 in creeks tonight up and down stream of jordan. Won't be long now, but the wait is killing me.

With the forcast for early next week of sun and upper 60's. I will be out pretty much all week next week with something swimming on my hook for bait. If them flats are feeding, I will find them!

Is there any temps where the flats like hitting the feeder creeks that any one has noticed????

I don’t think anyone really knows for sure, but a good indication is that magical plant we like to call the Lilac.

When those start blooming, it’s a good bet that , you can find numbers of Mushrooms, Crappies in the Shallows, and a Hungry Flathead.

I have a Lilac bush in my yard, and I’ve been watching it slooooowly progress. \:\(

That's good to know, Dtro. Fishing by the signs...

Like when the cottonwood starts flying, the carp start spawning.

I can just picture you watching the Lilac bush. Something about a river rat watching the Lilacs bloom seems a little off to me.

Just makes me want do the Tim the Toolman Taylor grunt after picturing you staring at the pretty flowers....... cry.gif

Or go outside and chop some wood or something else manly!!

You're killing me with the Lilacs........ confused.gif

They have greened up nicely and the flowers have budded, but I don’t expect a full bloom for another 5-7 days.

That means the morels should be out as they follow the Lilacs. Go picking Darren.

yep, the temps are coming up. I had 60 in most all of the backwaters today. The creeks are ripe for some white bass action.

On a side note, every time I think I seen everywhere my boat can go, I find a new adventure. Saw some places tonight that I thought I'd never have my boat on.

So what was the depth back there???

and more importantly....did you catch anything??

We noticed the creeks about 2 degrees warmer than the main channel. Caught a few channels and also missed a bunch. Seems they would either hammer it or tap- tap and then they would drop it.

WWG, which lake? wink lol

The deepest I could find in lake 1 was 8 ft although your buddy Pat said he found a 20ft hole out in his canoe (of course I found that out after I had the boat back on the trailer). Would've liked to mark that one.

Lake 2 was a consitent 10-12 bottoming out at about 13ft.

Creek 1 was a backwater bayou that consisted of stump fields, willows, and march grass that led to a raging river.

We only had to get out once though grin

I went one last time yesterday afternoon with a friend for a few hours.  We each got one, and we each missed one.  Raised about 20 birds at four spots, plus one deer.  Unfortunately, the season is now over.   It was a superb season though.  Second best season I've had with this dog.  She just had her 13th season.  I hope she can do it again next year.   I'll be sorting my sock drawer now for a couple months...

He can have this one!  Haha!  We shoulda maybe stayed on top in 14 but we could see the bottom so clearly and it was shallower than we really wanted.  The quick deeper water check yielded perch and pike right away, so we moved.  Caught plenty before dark, now pretty quiet.   I have a hunch the bay WILL fish shallower than the main lake we’re used to.   16 inches of good ice out here.

Thanks for reminding me to make sure that one is in the fish house!  It’s tradition that we watch that on the first trip every year.

Well that would explain it better n me forgetting about it!   I swear I chucked the last of em before we left the lake!

Are you sure one of your other grumpy old friends didn't throw that in there for yea?

We (my wife mainly) are monitoring the pages of the big three pretty closely.  Not Mille Lacs though - we don’t go to the big one closest to us - haha.   We’re still shooting for Winnie tomorrow but might have to shift to Red if we can’t get out there yet.  Spent all day going through gear.  Bought a ton of bait.  Sharpened my spears and saw.  Way too much gear.   I also found out I forgot 1 ciscoe in my long rod box from my Ontario trip in March. Gaaggggghhh.  Everything out, washed with Dawn in hot water and set out to dry.  Still stinks but not like a punch in the nose stink.  And like me, after a long weekend fishing, after awhile I hardly notice the smell anyway.
