New reports anyone??

Recommended Posts

Went down to pool 2 on Sunday in the rain and fished from 12:00 till 5:30 p.m. Tried by the hwy 5 bridge with no bites. Moved down to the dam and started catching fish vertical jigging with gumball jigs and fatheads. Ended up catching three walleyes (14-16") and three decent crappies. (All released of course). Glow green and red seemed to be working the best. What is up with this stretch of the river, I would think the walleyes would be biting quite a bit better by now??? This is the time of year we are supposed to be hammering them!!! Is there just a low population of walleyes in this pool or what?? I don't want to have to drive down to redwing anymore and spend a bunch in gas, but if the fishing continues to be like it is in pool 2, I guess I have no choice. Can anyone clear this up??

Good luck out there. GE

I was down there yesterday morning, launched at Lilydale and fished the confluence first. I popped about a 9" walter right away, 30 seconds after I baited the hook for the first time and thought it would be a good sign. We were fishing some timber though and my buddies kept hanging up and got a bit frustrated so we moved. (I kept hanging up too, and lost a couple jigs, but it is river fishing, and I know better.) We motored up to the dam and fished the mpls side for a bit towards the end of the wall. I was casting upstream and letting the current bring it back. I popped a 16" eye there and saw a couple more go into the boats around. I missed a couple, came back with minnow heads bit off right behind the gills. Shoulda had a stinger, but then I never get bit when I use a stinger. My buddy had a bite, while using a stinger, had the fish on solidly, and then nothing. Reels up, no minnow, just jig and stinger. Don't quite understand that one, but then again, its fishing. We headed down stream and stopped at a few spots without much going and got back to the launch right as it started raining. Good timing for us I suppose, wasn't really looking forward to fishing in the rain even though I was prepared to do so.

I fished up by the dam on Saturday. 3:30 until dark. The two of us caught six crappies, 1 smallie total. One northern follow as well. My first time at the Ford dam. Only saw 2 walleyes boated and returned to the water. Definite light bite - lost more than we boated.

I too wonder if the Ford dam is worth it vs. heading down to Red Wing. But with the price of gas, I won't be heading down to Red Wing again this spring. Waiting for the spring pannies in a few weeks!!

Temps were ranging between 40-41.5. Should be a nice long spawn this year with the forecasted temps.

Was out on Monday from 10-2 - temps about 41. Fished by the confluence and the only excitment was the snags and watching the leashless dog walkers get tickets from the park patrol lady.
