interior car lights

Question

I am not looking for a blow by blow fix, I was just wondering what would cause a car's (98 Altima) dash lights to quit working when the headlights are turned on. Even the clock and radio go out, but the radio still works. It is not the adjustable brightness dial being set too low. If you turn the lights off the lights inside return. Thanks for any help!

Probably the dimmer switch (brightness dial) is bad, you can remove the dimmer switch and check for power going into it, when the headlights are turned on. And check it as you scroll the wheel up and down.

I just want to say thanks again to all the people who take the time to help each other out. This was a very easy fix, although the part cost $70. Dealer only they said...
