That sound great Fishkid and if we find any honey holes on Friday I have no problem with you fishing with us. Try to keep your thoughts on school work and not the tug of a monster laker on the end of your rod grin.gif Don't forget that we have a chef preparing us lunch on the ice grin.gif Thanks Cheffery

Steve thanks for the info on the smelt from the Ladies thread. I will have to see if there are any available in the area.

RANDY! RANDY! RANDY! You now have no excuse to miss the bash.

Jim, I believe I may have some smelt that you can use for the bash, I will likely bring all that I have to make room in the freezer for this year.

The only problem with today is that it's not Friday, of to work I go.

I've updated the ice/slush report on the final Bside Bash details post, and we've added a few things to the silent auction, so take a "final" look at that thread before heading up here.

See you all on Burntside! grin.gifgrin.gif

Last winter I told myself this would be the year that I wake up at 3 in the morning and drive my sorry behind up for this Bash thing. Well, our daughter was born on December 18th so once again (third year in a row for me now) I will have to wait until next year. Have a great weekend, I will be there next year!

Jim,

I will also bring a couple extra packs of smelt to the bash. There is no need to pick some up. They stay frozen quite well in the back of the truck and only take a few minutes on top of the defroster to be ready to use.

Cheffrey,

Will your grill be available for Friday evening? If so I'll leave mine at home and just bring up some charcoal but if it is a hassle for you I'll just throw mine in the back of the truck.

Tami, I think there are going to be so many of us tomorrow morning down at the landing that finding someone to hang and fish with simply won't be a problem. We'll make sure everybody's hooked up.

It certainly will, it is a two section deal that has a smaller side likely the size of your weber. The other side fits a pig. Where would you like it? On the ice or at the paddle.

Cheffery and BD110 thanks a lot for the offer but some times it doesn't pay to be prepared. I just bought 4 dozen from Outdoor Advantage along with some minnows but I am sure there will be some other FMers that could use them.

Fishkid my cell is 218-428-2504 if you need it otherwise we will meet up Saturday around 8:00. My sled is a 2 up Polaris light blue with pink stripes and I will be wearing camo head to toe and I will look for a guy pulling a Yukon that looks like he needs a ride grin.gif

Great, on the ice at HQ would be wonderful. I was going to meet up with Explorer there. Thanks! Anyone else interested in grilling before heading to the Wabbit on Friday feel free to stop by.

Chaffmj, I just got word from our maintenance dept. that we will need to burn it before cooking as it is freshly painted. So we will need to get it fired up for a couple hours with wood (we are bringing) before you grill on it.

I'll get a check in the mail in the next week or so. I know how medical expenses add up.

When my wife had her organ transplant (in 2004) there were complications, and she was in the Hospital,(U of M) the Bethesda Rehab, and then courage center for a total of 11 months.

Prayers and thoughts go out to the family!!!!

I found some smelt at the grocery store, do you have to stay mobile when trout fishing or can you stay put in one spot?

This has probably been mentioned already, but in the midst of getting everything together, I totally forgot to get a trout stamp. Heads up to everyone else blush.gif

T-minus 11 hours!

Dtro if you have not bought a stamp I received a stamp in the mail so I checked my license and sure enough I paid for 3 so if you want it it is yours. I will bring it to the bash just in case.

frogtosser, some stay in one spot all day and others move around. Totally a judgment call, and both styles of fishing work fine.

Dtro and I are ski-daddling out of the Twin Cities at 2am tonight and will be up there in the early morning. Plan to fish the majority of the day or until the early morning catches up with us. grin.gif

I "think" I've got a super top secret miracle Lake Trout lure. Can't wait to try it! ;\)

Chris, after about a four and a half hour drive, you'll be rolling into Burntside about the time I'm waking up. Ahhhh, to be a local! grin.gifgrin.gif

You just gonna hit the ice and fish from 6:30 on or nap in your pickup until 8ish? grin.gifgrin.gif

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
