Whats up fella's,
haven't had much time to use the computer lately, but it looks like you guys are still fishin and postin.

Tim here is the weekly report from the "Arm Pit", (thats my new name for it). Crappies are still there, but were still biting light. They are not really picking up until 7:30 or so, as of Thursday. I brought a buddy of mine out on Wed. and put him on a 13.5 and a 12incher, so the size are also holding. I got my bonus fish on Wed. too, I iced a 30in. tiger musky. Man was it fun, on 4lb. line. Snapped a picture and slid her back in. I also found a few nice sunnies down there. Hope this warmer weather gets the fish back into a more active mood.

Speaking of which, we all should try to work together on posting ice conditions and danger areas when we see them. I got a new truck and she's to pretty to become fishing structure.

Taz, whenever man, lets go fish. I ain't no lake expert, but I can catch fish. I also don't have a computer at home, so give me a call if your thinking about going out. I live in Eagan, so I am only out in that area during the week for work. Lets meet up and rustle up a fish or 20. My # is 612-532-3209 leave a message if I ain't there.

Tim that was a blast. I was out from 11 am until 6pm. Tim came a little later. I caught fish fairly steadily ALL DAY. I can't even count how many I threw back down the hole. Kept a limit of 9's and 10's (first time EVER kept a limit in 30 years, so no hate mail please). Caught a 11.5" and a 12" white. Unfortunatley I don't know when I can get out again but i have to say I have an idea where. About same distance as tonka without the slow windy roads. Will be on tonka again soon though.
Ebass how did you make out looking for slabs? Anyone else go out today?

I drove out to goose island from the Sherriff's landing on Sunday. No problem with the ice thickness for now. Still 20+". I would be reluctant to do it after next weekend if the weather stays warm. Caught a northern a perch and my first ever metro walleye by goose from 5-6(never tried for them before). Couldn't catch any craps there so I went to the north arm from 6:30 to 9. The bite was hot with that front moving in. Was using two poles and caught about 30 (plenty of doubles). Tons of fun.

addict, ebass, tim, goose, minnetonka, tonka boy (if youre still breathing :+)) just kidding. Good chance I will be hitting the other lake tomorrow hopefully around 2. Caught a ton more and so far almost all have been bigger than anything I've caught on tonka. Anyone is welcome. It's not 100% but pretty likley. Suposed to rain/snow wed-fri. May be last shot with the truck. Let me know.

Moby 1,
Sounds like you had better success than I did. Wed night and Thurs night were pretty good. Sat went to Black Lake and it was really - REALLY packed. And the bite wasn't that good for me. I did get an 11" that went back. But that's about it. Also tried by Goose on Sat during the day. Little sunnies, perch and craps.

Nothing to brag about. I don't think I'm driving on the ice anymore. Did you report come from Sarah? We should hook up this weekend or sometime this week so I can give you your light back. And go for some Craps.

Later,
EBass

Moby1,

I know Lake Sarah pretty well. Do you go on the west side (landing) or east side? I have minnows that need to see the paper lips of the crappie smile.gif

As far as I know ther is only 1 landing . It's on the south side of the lake. There is one makeshigt landing on the north side but it's blocked off. Only good for sleds. GO off the landing and head to the right or east. If it's anything like it has been the last 4 times i've been out there, the paper mouths will be more than happy to help you getting rid of some of those minnows.

I'm still here guys! I was up at LOW for the last week or so. I caught enough walleyes to last me until opener so now it's time to get back to the paper lips.

Keep me posted. Hopefully I can meet up with you guys again before we're launching the boats.

Moby,
you da man... thanks for the tip on that spot on the other lake. Just got back and ended up with a limit of decent size crappies... Nothing huge, but some in the 10+" range and all over 9". Didn't catch many dinks either - very few that were smaller than 8"... They seemed to start picking up some again after dark, although were biting much lighter...

who is all going out on Tonka this week or this weekend?? I'm planning to hit it again soon hopefully...

The ice is a little shakey by some of the shorelines, but the rest is fine. I even saw a few trucks out on the ice last night. I wouldn't drive, but walking is fine.

I've got a few spots that I'm thinking of trying tonight. I'll post my results tomorrow.

Yo Taz,
I'm heading out again tomorrow(Fri.) I haven't been to my spot for about a week, but the crappies should still be there. If you got sometime tomorrow we should hook up. No, I wouldn't answer my phone as GreyGoose, my name is Matt, but either way it's my cell so I would know what the call was about. Anyways I will probibly head out to the lake around 3-4. My number is somewhere on this post, maybe you still have it. I saw your number too so I might give you a call, I'll ask for Tazman.

I was also wondering what this rain did to the ice. Is it still safe for walking or is it getting dangerous?

Going tonight with Tonka Boy for dem crappies. But I can only post from my work. So I'll post my results on Monday morning.

Bringing along my ice picks just incase I do fall through. What a rude awakening that would be.

Fellas
Didn't get anything at Red this weekend. Had some fun trying to baja the way through the 100 yard mudhole and (It's up to your knees and we were in a 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive van) crappy ice for a ways at Hillmans. Between Tim and his buddy, only three crappies and 1 eye. My catch - perch. Was a great time anyways. Thanks Tim. Mabey I should've sent out some more smoke signals to the fish. Great weather Had a heck of a game feed on the lake- venison, elk, burgers. I haven't eaten that much food in 3 days, let alone 1 day. Thanks again.
Hows the ice out there. I hear it was pretty warm yesterday?

Moby 1,
The ice sucks. My ice season ended on Friday. Got a few crappies, but nothing to brag about. All let go.

I went shore fishing on Pool 2 (Hidden Falls)and so did everyone else. The river is way low and all the eddy areas were taken. Nice weekend though (weather wise).

Time to break out the boats, or in my case time to buy one.

we ended up fishing up at Clearwater instead this weekend... we got some nice slabs, although they didn't seem to have the feed bags on - we had to work for them...

As for the ice, still plenty good at Clearwater. I'd say at least one more weekend of ice for clearwater - there was a good 12" of soft ice and the shoreline was still good. Didn't need waders or anything yet... About time to get the boat ready.. I'll be taking a break from fishing for the next month or so, I suppose it is a good time of year to have to do that... We are expecting our first very soon. Hopefully back in business by early May.

Yup, I think my icefishing is done for the season. Went out to the "Arm-pit" on Sat. and fishing was S-L-O-W. Caught a few sunnies and a bunch of perch that could have been used for bait for the sunnies, and zero crappies. I had to use the waders to reach the ice. So I am spending my free time this week preping my boat for open water, I can't wait. I'll be pounding the rivers until ice-out. Ahh... ...I love the change of seasons.

I'm already going through withdrawel. Went to work yeaterday morning (indoors) and had to wear my carrhartt arctic wear all morning. I was freezing. I went home and was in bed sweating gallons from 10am yesterday until now (7am tues.) Never had withdrawel that bad before. Must be all the fishing fun and comaradery(sp?) from this sight. Never had so many people to fish with. Either that or Tim was doing funny stuff to the food this weekend. JUST KIDDING!!! email me at [email protected] if anayone is doing any shore fishing coming up.
Mabey Ill get the open water stuff and the boat ready.

On the South Shore...  It's deer hunting season in MN and not many are out fishing.  Those that are fishing are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and excellent walleye and sauger bite that is happening across the lake.   The best depths on the south end of LOW are 22-28 feet of water.     No surprise, vertical jigging with frozen emerald shiners is the program for most anglers.  Anglers are going through a lot of frozen emerald shiners as the walleyes and saugers are all mixed sizes.  You will catch small ones and your eaters.  Depending upon where on the lake you are fishing, some slots and big trophies are in the mix as well.    Anglers are also reporting very good numbers of jumbo perch this fall.  Watch out for an occasional pike or even lake sturgeon mixed in with the walleyes.      Good numbers of fish are staged in great spots for the upcoming ice fishing season. On the Rainy River...  Good numbers of shiners again in the river this past week. Typically, if there are shiners, there will be walleyes, and there definitely are.     Walleyes are coming from various spots from Four Mile Bay to Wheeler's Point, to Baudette all the way to Birchdale.  With so many anglers taking advantage of the deer hunting season, there are not a lot of boats on the river.      Walleyes are being caught in 10-25 feet of water in various stretches of the river.  The bait and consequently, walleyes, are moving around.  Once you find some fish, you will be rewarded. Jigging with live or frozen emerald shiners is the way to go. Some anglers are also still trolling crankbaits upstream to cover more ground and find fish. Both methods are producing solid results. Sturgeon fishing remains strong.  The catch-and-release sturgeon fishing is open into the spring when it changes to the "keep season" on April 24th. Up at the NW Angle...  For those not in the woods hunting, fall fishing continues to be excellent.  It is areas with structure holding walleyes in this part of the lake.  Points, neck-down areas with current, shoreline breaks, and transition zones from rock to mud are all productive locations for walleye right now.     A nice mixed bag with perch, pike and crappies being caught as well. Good muskie fishing with the colder water temps and shorter days.  Some big fish and some good numbers are being caught amongst the islands.  Both casting and trolling is getting it done.

Yes.  No lightning strikes in the area on Saturday and a tree was burning.  The squirrel hunters have been a nuisance this year with more activity in our area then we have ever seen.  This was the 3rd fire in the section of woods in the past 2 weeks.  Most definitely not caused by natural events.
    • leech~~
Stop, trying to make everybody feel bad that not in the woods!   😟  😆

Haha!  No… In other news: All the cell cams users that I talk with are seeing some daylight movement of adult bucks since yesterday.  No deer hunters want to be at work right now.
    • SkunkedAgain
The water temps on the west end Friday were 45 in HeadOLakes and 44 in the smaller bays.

You didn't Sluice um! 😆 I was driving 94 passed Runnings in Monticello yesterday late after noon and saw a huge, thick dark brown 8 point running alone the freeway with its tongue out.  Thinking he was after a girlfriend! 😜
