To those of you who like the Minnetonka crappie tourney.....Try the one on Clearwater Lake May 4th--$2500 for first, $1500 for second, etc. Great tournament, always the first Sat. in May. It's out B.J.'s bait shop on the lake. You can call him at (320) 274-3730 for info or ask me, I'll tell you what I know. So what's this get together on Tonka about? I asked grey goose but he didn't respond.

Juggs,

We're just a bunch of guys getting together for some fishing. Kind of a "put some names with faces" type of deal. We're not limiting ourselves to any group of people...anyone is invited. We'll be by Goose island tomorrow evening (Thurs). If you would like to stop by and join us, feel free.

Thanks for the info on the Clearwater crappie contest. I might have to check that one out also!

It will at a minimum be a good time had by all. If all things work out mabey a few slabs thrown in too. Come on! Any advice on color , jigs...etc? I like to be prepared. Green was best on sarah last night and orange wasn't worth squat.

Moby1,

Try green/white glow or pink/white glow. I try to start with those 2 and then go to small perch colored jig(no glow) if needed. I'm heading out now so I'll post a report tomorrow.

Moby 1,
I don't know what the best way would be. I'm going to 394 over to 15 West to the Launch. I work in E.P.

T.B., Sorry I didn't see your response till today. I started a new topic and posted a report from last night. How was it at Goose Island? Is that the small island about 3/4 mile out from the landing in Spring Park? (I don't even know the name of that lake). I wouldn't mind hooking up with some of you there or taking you to where I got them last night. I could go for more size, though, so maybe your spots are better.

Tim L,

Yes, that was me out by Goose. I did pretty well. I ended up with 34 crappies in 2 1/2 hours. Nothing too big, but a couple over 11". Should be good for tonight!

Moby1,

I'd take 7-19-15. It would probably be your shortest route.

See you on the ice!

Ok Tonka Boy, Top this one. Brady Bunch theme song with a fish tale twist.

There's a story
of a lovely Crappie
who was schooling up
3 other lovely fish.
All of them had paper lips,
like their mothers,
the youngest had worms, ish.

There's a story
of a fish named Musky
who was busy with 3 Muskies
of his own.
They were 4 Skis
living all together
yet they were all alone.

Till this one day when the Crappie met this Musky.
and the Musky knew that it was much more than a hunch.
That this group would somehow form a feeding frenzy
that's the day the Craps became the Musky's lunch.
The Musky's lunch, The Musky's lunch.
blah blah blah.

That is a pretty impressive tune, I must say. What time is anyone staying out until tonight? Any specific. Forgot to grab the cel on the way out this morning. I was too busy getting the gear. If I can get a general idea, I can head right out. Otherwise I have to pick it up from the wife. She thinks I've drowned if I'm not there within 15 minutes of when I say, if she cant call.

Yeah I probably do have too much time on my hands. Oh well, better to try and fail, than never try at all.

Tonka Boy, I got one more going with. And he's getting the minnows at Vados. He had the day off that punk.

But I still need to renew my lic. I'll see ya when I see ya. Probably around 4:45ish.

Is it me or does it seem like the only people out fishing still(esp. in bad weather) are members of this site. I love it. Special thanks to Tim who hooked up with me the other nite and shared a spot. Hopefully I can come through tomorrow nite when I share one of my spots with him. We're heading out after work, about 4-5, if anyone else is interested. Sounds like the weather is going to cooperate, so let one of us know.

God bless America

Moby1,

I'm planning on being out until the fish stop biting. Things slow down arounnd 9-10, so I'm thinking about 10 or so. I haven't heard anyone else's schedule yet though.

I'll be on the ice at 4:30(in a white dodge truck). See you out there!

Either members of the site or people that read about it on the sight. To the three people in the White Chev when I got there, How did you do last night?
So how did we all do last night? It was a good time. I ended up catching 8 small ones. They were comeing through higher up as I left. I think Tonka Boy was still out as well as Ebass, when I left. Tim even stopped out for a minute. Pretty sure I won't be going to red this weekend. No one would commit. Had acess to 1 and mabey 2 hotel rooms.
Good meeting up with you all.

It was nice to meet all you guys out on Tonka last night! I had a blast. The storm front pushed the bite back later than I expected, but it sounds like we all caught fish. My final tally was 16 (only 6 of which were decent).

So who were the guys in the white Chev? How did you guys do?

Keep on posting guys...we'll have to do it again sometime!

I will be heading out tonight after work (done at 4:00). Anyone going out? I'm still trying to ascertain where Goose Island is. I'll be driving a black Ford F-150 and using a green Eskimo tent.

Juggs,

I might be out there tonight. I was thinking of taking my dad out for the evening. We'll see what happens...

As far as where Goose Island is located:
As you get on the lake from the Spring Park bay access (next to the Sheriff headquarters), follow the plowed road out to the first island...that will be Goose. The north side of the island is where we all fished last night. 22' of water is a good place to start. Hopefully I'll see you out there. Good luck!

I'd assume your talking about the fish?lol I've been out to Goose the last 2 nights. Just before dark, up until around 8:00, most of the crappies have averaged 6-9". Then they really seem to school up 7-10' under the ice. At that point you'll start catching some decent fish in the 9-11" range, with an occasional 12-13". At least that has been my experience as of late.

Hopefully I'll see you out there tonight! Good luck.

So how was it tonight? ANyone going out tomorrow. What did you decide Tim? We'll get together and I'll bring you the Speed Shak. I misplaced your # AGAIN. So call me in the morning or if you or anyone is game, I'll be out on sarah, unless you have a good report. Probably leave Maple Grove around 9 and fish until afternoon or evening. Until the leash gets yanked.

What happened to Ebass. I hven't seen a post since the Thursday outing?? Did somebody scare him away or did a huge slabber pull him down the hole? Anyways, I'll have to meet up with him sometime, he still has my light. I didn't want to leave him without one. It looked kind of difficult fishing by candlelight.

On the South Shore...  It's deer hunting season in MN and not many are out fishing.  Those that are fishing are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and excellent walleye and sauger bite that is happening across the lake.   The best depths on the south end of LOW are 22-28 feet of water.     No surprise, vertical jigging with frozen emerald shiners is the program for most anglers.  Anglers are going through a lot of frozen emerald shiners as the walleyes and saugers are all mixed sizes.  You will catch small ones and your eaters.  Depending upon where on the lake you are fishing, some slots and big trophies are in the mix as well.    Anglers are also reporting very good numbers of jumbo perch this fall.  Watch out for an occasional pike or even lake sturgeon mixed in with the walleyes.      Good numbers of fish are staged in great spots for the upcoming ice fishing season. On the Rainy River...  Good numbers of shiners again in the river this past week. Typically, if there are shiners, there will be walleyes, and there definitely are.     Walleyes are coming from various spots from Four Mile Bay to Wheeler's Point, to Baudette all the way to Birchdale.  With so many anglers taking advantage of the deer hunting season, there are not a lot of boats on the river.      Walleyes are being caught in 10-25 feet of water in various stretches of the river.  The bait and consequently, walleyes, are moving around.  Once you find some fish, you will be rewarded. Jigging with live or frozen emerald shiners is the way to go. Some anglers are also still trolling crankbaits upstream to cover more ground and find fish. Both methods are producing solid results. Sturgeon fishing remains strong.  The catch-and-release sturgeon fishing is open into the spring when it changes to the "keep season" on April 24th. Up at the NW Angle...  For those not in the woods hunting, fall fishing continues to be excellent.  It is areas with structure holding walleyes in this part of the lake.  Points, neck-down areas with current, shoreline breaks, and transition zones from rock to mud are all productive locations for walleye right now.     A nice mixed bag with perch, pike and crappies being caught as well. Good muskie fishing with the colder water temps and shorter days.  Some big fish and some good numbers are being caught amongst the islands.  Both casting and trolling is getting it done.

Yes.  No lightning strikes in the area on Saturday and a tree was burning.  The squirrel hunters have been a nuisance this year with more activity in our area then we have ever seen.  This was the 3rd fire in the section of woods in the past 2 weeks.  Most definitely not caused by natural events.

Stop, trying to make everybody feel bad that not in the woods!   😟  😆

Haha!  No… In other news: All the cell cams users that I talk with are seeing some daylight movement of adult bucks since yesterday.  No deer hunters want to be at work right now.

The water temps on the west end Friday were 45 in HeadOLakes and 44 in the smaller bays.

You didn't Sluice um! 😆 I was driving 94 passed Runnings in Monticello yesterday late after noon and saw a huge, thick dark brown 8 point running alone the freeway with its tongue out.  Thinking he was after a girlfriend! 😜
