tactics for mid-day smallies...

I fished the area north of Anoka a couple days ago. Caught some fish in the morning along the shore then things stopped. Where can I find smallies after the morning bite subsidesl like late morning-early afternoon? Do they relate deeper, especially in hot weather? Do they seek shade? Any help would be appreciated!

I have caught them all day, fishing for walleys or channel's.

But nothing beats right after dawn. The AM has always shown the most repeat action for smallies.
