Sunday at noon Mark Enge, Jon Vagle and I pulled into the dock and put the open water fishing season to bed. We fished for 3.5 hours and had 17 Walleyes, Saugers and Perch in the bucket. Drained what needed to be drained, unhooked batteries, pulled the electronics, opened all the compartments, put in 3 bags of mothballs and put the cover on.....Done.
Just a few miles up the shore from where we were fishing(up in the Morris Point and Light House Gaps) fishing was a lot better than where we were. There are lots of fish of all sizes including some really big fatties staged in the lake right out of the gaps so there must be some shiner minnows out in the lake waiting for the water to cool off a bit more (it was 37 degrees when we went out and 42 when we quit for the day at noon.
I think there is some good fishing left to be had but my dance card is pretty full for the next few weeks. It was a good memorable open water fishing season. Now I will look forward to an epic season on hard water.
