AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY MID SUMMER BASS OR WALLEYE CHAMPIONSHIP

Recommended Posts

Things are going good with this fundraiser tournament for the American Cancer Society.

We are now able to give them our first donation of$630.00.

Besides the payout guarantee for 13 prizes of $500.00 ,each for fishing teams, the reality that we could get them some funds is now evident.

Thanks alot to teams that have entered so far and especially the buisness sponsors that make this possible.

The calcuttas and the Belgian Waffle breakfast will turn in additional funding as will more teams entering.

We are shooting for 100 teams total and it looks like we will make it.

All sponsors that made this possible and ones still signing up and the teams [a big thank you]

4 more sponsors and several of them also entered teams as of today May 18 2007

We have not needed to spend a single cent on advertising this event .So looks like all the rest of proceeds will go to our cause The American Cancer Society

Mr.D started taking out some people that hadnt fished or wanted to just fish .5 times out so far ,lake has been good to us each time.

Also on the end of making this thing a go we have now added 21 prizes of $100.00 each, things such as boat winner brand ,truck that pulled it,motor that powered it etc.

also we have been able to do this as a couple of financial specialists have offered some matching funds[still speculative but looks good]for the moneys that go to American Cancer Society.

Todays new sponsors include Roth Chevrolet,Thrivent Financial For Lutherans,Disabled Fishing Vets.Kandiyohi Power Cooperative,Yamaha, and Lund. Our best help is Office Max that is giving us full color help at cost of black and white.Kandiyohi County Park #5,Green Lake Liquors,

Best single sponsor with teams,American Legion, best web site for teams[Fishing Minnesota]

Also most of these are adding teams besides helping.

So if you win and have a Chevrolet,Lund ,or Yamaha ,thats another $100.00 for each.If you win and dont have these American cancer Society gets that money to.Must be more brands of tucks ,SuVs,boats out in the world but we havent seen any sponsorship from them.

At breakfast banquet one of first big prizes is half day fishing trip on Green Lake with Bass Pro and or multi species guide.Warrior 193 Mercury powers this pro, fished against him before and with him .You will have a pleasant trip.this prize can be bid for Veterans only at the breakfast banquet along with other silent auctions.

Any registrtions post marked after June 15th leave 1/2 hour late.Other entrys are computer generated.

thank you

Do you choose to fish walleye or bass or can you fish both?

Is it Big Fish only or a stringer weight?

Do I have to fish with a cancer survivor, etc. or can I fish with anyone?

I have the boat, but I dont know a cancer patient/ survivor, is there boatless people looking for someone to fish with?

Primetime, thanks for keeping us informed. There was a pamphlet on my truck two weeks ago at the landing and I am making arangements to fish it. I can't believe there aren't people jumping all over this. I think everyone this day and age knows someone who has been diagnosed with cancer, so why not have fun fishing and support a good cause. After the tournament last weekend, I don't think I'll be winning anything but it will still be fun.

Really been fishing Green alot and its is pretty good.

We have 2 tournaments again next Saturday and Sunday, will put more under wipers.

Getting entry or inquiry every day[at least one]

do figure it to fill with patience.

out of teams entered now 13 actually have a survivor on team;think they are after the extra money ,but know its because they care.Last saturday one of the best walleye fishermen around here had to drop out of LCA walleye tourney because he was to ill from his Cancer to fish.

I know i am a man ,but I teered when I said goodby and goodluck when he left.

We just gotta do something to help these people.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
