When to come ? Warroad area

3 posts in this topic

I am a part of a group of guys from Alabama and Colorado who meet in MN each winter and spend the first weekend in March ice fishing and have much fun doing so. We have been coming up the last three years. First year near Brainerd, fishing Gull, last year, LOTW out of Baudette and this year on URL. Next year we are looking at going out of Warroad and fishing LOTW again. Is early March normally a good time to come? Or does it really matter? Need to make flight reservations, because we get free flights into Grand Forks if we book early enough? Thanks for any info. Also any recommendations on Sleeper accomodations in the Warroad area would be much appreciated. smile.gif

March is a great month on the LOTW, probably the best month for the multi-species bites all over and around the pond.

PJP if you see this check your mail quick!!!

Thanks Fiskyknut. We will make our flight reservations.

Have never been to Warroad, any references for sleeper accomodations would be appreciated.

Fall fishing can be excellent but the weather can be iffy. Fortune bay casino has a nice marina. It has a bait shop, fillet house, freezer for you to keep your fish, beer, and gas. The rooms are nice and a decent price. Plus if you sign up for their card and gamble a little they will sent you coupons which commonly include a couple of free week night room rentals. It's not like the cabin feel on the lake but they have a nice pool, hot tub, sauna, and exercise room. They have a little arcade for the kids too. You can get food 24/7 and the bar is always open and has the sports games on. I know it's not for everyone but we have 2 little ones so the pool and arcade are great when they lose their patience with the boat.

Was out yesterday 9am till 2pm. Fished by dam, airplane, pontoon, dock. Fish were terribly negative. Three guys, three gills, one rock bass and dink perch. We were able to drive our pickup truck every where.
