Backwater Brawl Feb 19th 8am to......FREEE

Recommended Posts

3 foots deep... yikes.. thats shallow fishing...

This is going to be a very new expierience for me, as I have never fished a river backwater while standing on ice!... I really hope to pick up a few tips from Crappie Tom and Matt Johnson... as well as trying to adapt things that have worked for me on lakes and apply them to backwaters... Should be a ton of fun...

J.P.

Waxies were the common bait as were eurolarve and spikes. Some nice perch on crappie minnows aere also taken.

There was a local dude that made his own rods. They were pretty unique as the line went through the middle of the rod blank. It came out the tip and then went through a spring bobber. He taught school down there, out fishing everyone at least 5:1. He had a little black ant type jig tipped with a waxie.

Are you thinking about heading down there to try it out?

Sounds like a good time--I wish I could have made it. Hopefully next year I'll get to meet some of you guys.

Hey Juggs,

Fishing was excellent! We had a steady bite all day with mostly smaller perch and gills. I did see a 14" and a couple 12"+ crappies. Also a few perch that went around the 10"-11" size. Also I saw a couple of rock bass crossed with a sunnie. I heard someone call them shellcrackers and I heard someone else call them warmouths. Different looking thats for sure.

Good to hear. I fish that area a lot but haven't been to Pontoon in a while. My first year there was great, especially at last ice.

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.
