Minnows-Shinners

10 posts in this topic

Shinners are in very small quanity in Baudette. There were going at 5 bucks for 15 minnows last weekend. I would check in Grand Rapids or Deer River, if you're heading up there antime soon.

I like the 24/24 idea!! Maybe its a minnow conspiricy, they say there are only a few so they jack up the price kinda like gas prices? Sounds familiar confused.gif :confused

Let's be honest, have you ever heard someone in a bait shop say "Yeah, we have lots of big shiners so we dropped the price for a few weeks."

Go see Steve at Log Cabin Bait right out on Wheelers. He usually has them and his scoops are pretty darn generous. Adrians resort will have them too.

Fisky: Always had good luck finding Shiners at Log Cabin. I'll be in there on 12/27 about 100am to fill 'er up. We'll be at Riverbend 27 and 28 both nights in case you're close and thirsty. We're in Cabin #1. Bill blush.gif

I was up there last week and Adrians Resort had plenty of shiner and they were a pretty good quantity for $7.50 if you use their containers. If you use your own container I think they are even a little cheaper.

Hey Bill, one of these times I'm gonna have to try and run you folks down. My plans are still up in the air for next week but you never know. Sunday it sounds like I'll be out over on the eastside anyhow! Maybe get out that way Monday Tuesday as well???

Have a great trip and good luck. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours.

Did you finish 7th grade grammar? I'm trying to understand your question...can't!

There are two main spawning spots on Vermilion that I know of. I'm near the one on the west end of Vermilion. The walleye haven't been as good on this end yet they don't pull any fish out from here. They've been pulling walleye out of the east end spawning spot in Pike Bay, and for some reason walleye have been doing better over there.   I have no doubt that there are many variables that go into the equation, but you can't ignore that the end they put the 10% back into has been doing better than the one where they leave it alone.

Are there any updates for the area?  It sounds like crappie fishing is good in the shallows on Fishtrap.  I heard Sham is fighting high waters with no end in sight....

Trolloni - Do you write it that way to actually troll us?  Creel/lake surveys show Vermilion is very healthy and the DNR continues to use new technology.  It's only going to get better.  If we listened to old, arm-chair QB's, fishing would be as shi#TY as the West side.

At least10% of all eggs hatched at the Pike River Hatchery are returned to Vermilion waters every year. According to DNR statistics that percentage is usually a much higher survival rate then if they had let the walleyes spawn naturally! I consider that a good trade off! Cliff
