Went up north today with @eyeguy 54 and we found plenty of ice if the access would have been better we would have driven out. We fished hard as both of us have similar fishing styles. We jump hole to hole picking off the aggressive fish with plastics. The wind did not do us any favors but we still caught a good number of fish. If eyeguy took photos maybe he will post em. Thank you eyeguy for the call I wanted to get out fishing today.

Went fishing with @river rat316. Fished about 10 feet of water. Caught many gills from 5 to 9 inches. River rat caught a great large mouth. I caught fair number of crappies a couple dandies. I am going to miss ice fishing until next time.

Thinking of going fishing up north again just not sure where yet.

Most lakes are here opened up with the wind. Have at them in da boats

You don't need to go too far north. Knife lake had people out Monday, Anne had people yesterday. There is lots of ATV traffic on Mille Lacs, and the big panfish tourney is there this weekend.

All the Aitken area lakes have solid ice, but as is always the case, watch for drain holes, cracks, etc.

Still lots of fishing possible.

Well the ice close to home was gone or not safe. I do not need to head to far north to find safe ice, but I got this problem. TURKEYS on my brain and I know the season is a month out yet. I know I should've chasing fish but it's cold out today. I might go later up to find some big gills and crappies.

We fished the same lake today, lmao. Looks like we found quite a bit better gills, released 3 close to 10". Bite sure died down in the afternoon, then had a good flurry around 4.

Truck was plenty safe, almost 20" out on main lake, but one hell of a crack running from South to North.

I also caught tons 3 inch crappies. Think I might hit the bays on Mille lacs or some other little gems up that way.

Met up with Rick G and Eyeguy today man those two guys can fish. I did not out fish them but I hung in there. It was nice to see all three drill augers in action. I must say I need to upgrade my 3 amp hour batteries. Thanks for the invite guys it is truly a joy to watch you fish.

Simple question and don't give up your hotspots:
You think crappies will be reachable by shore yet? By this weekend? It's gonna be nice, but a little windy. I'm heading out with the kids and we'll be hitting a few shore spots on different lakes within the same latitudes as the twin cities,  but just outside of the cities. Just curious what you all think based on your findings or experience.

      3.13.17 Sunset Lodge Fishing Report

      Hello from the NW Angle!

The snow pack has diminished and snowmobile trails on the the lake are icy. The forecast for this week is great for extending our ice fishing season.

On the Minnesota side, the number of perch have greatly increased with many 14 inchers being caught. Good sized saugers are being seen as well. The dead stick is still productive, rattlers and spoons used as attracting method in the sand or mud off of the rock structure.

Canadian fishing has been consistent, limits of crappies are being caught in 30-33ft with fine plastics that wiggle. Walleyes can be had easily near rock structure in 22-26 feet.

      Until next week,

      Sunset Lodge Ice Team

      Hello from the NW Angle!

Mid-week we are expecting temperatures in the teens and a few inches of snow which should help extend the hard water season!

On the Minnesota side, fishing has really picked up. The morning bite is strong up until the noon hour and picks back up again around 4pm. With the longer days, the evening bite is a little more consistent. Black and gold as well as pink and white have continued to produce the most fish. We are fishing more rock piles than in February and are having good luck at depths between 22 and 24 ft.

On the Canadian side, holes between 28 and 30 feet are a solid bet for crappies. Blue and white tungsten with a red mustache worm or wax worm have been very productive. We are seeing a lot more perch in our catch.

Still a couple weeks of great fishing left, come join us!

      Until next week,

      Sunset Lodge Ice Team

Only 39 degrees in the Pike River mouth yesterday! That is usually warmer then the main lake. Cliff

Del, We only got about 1/2 inch of snow but more snow and rain is predicted for Sunday and maybe Monday. Only 22 degrees for a high here yesterday! 39 degrees now and supposed to get to 50 degrees today. Crazy spring! Probably still frost in the ground in most areas. Cliff

Hello Everyone, May is just a few days away and I'd love to see how the water is warming this Spring through Summer... Can we start a thread with daily water temps? Date: East side or West side: Location: Temp:   I'll be there June 10th! Thanks, ~Tripp in ATL

Not a fishing report, but a question....   Is the frost out of the ground yet?   Bringing some stuff up to the cabin and wondering about water lines and stuff freezing and all that.   I see the forecast is for the 50's next week..     How much snow did you all get?

I keep and eat fish also.  I was just reacting with a snide remark to a tone of "I want some fish to eat, got any spots" that perhaps was unintended .   If so, I apologize.    Many of the streams in SE Minnesota are populated primarily with native brown trout, and the DNR information is reasonably reliable.  There was a major kill in summer 2015 on the very popular south branch Whitewater river and I don't know how the recovery is coming along.    Cause still unknown.      Some recent info....(not about kill)   http://www.postbulletin.com/sports/outdoors/giving-nature-and-anglers-a-hand/article_dfe73b76-5cd9-520c-834f-7d4101a40b2e.html   http://www.postbulletin.com/sports/outdoors/john-weiss-trout-cooperate-for-a-fantastic-opener/article_2b106b9b-595f-5bee-8c3b-ceb761179da1.html   The DNR stocking activity is accessible from Lakefinder.   Here is the info for rainbow trout for 2016, the latest year available.  It will give you an idea of the activities.     http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind/showstocking.html?year=2016&county=&species=RBT
