I will be ice fishing there this wk end. between the winipeg river, and treaty island. we have day huts rented from hook & bullet, I am interested to know if anybody else has fished that area, and what seemed to work for you. I have eight little guys, ages seven through sixteen going with us on this trip. I cant wait to see them on the ice thanks robert1965

I have been learning quite a bit about this part of the lake. I have fished zippelbay, northwestangle, nestor falls, for crappie. and from what I hear, the kenora area has much clearer water. and you can bring your under water camera, opposed to the u.s.a. side, where the water clarity is not as good. due to the kenora area being rock bottom,, opposed to muck, silt, etc. lots of lake trout and walleye being caught, I cant wait I will let you know how we did thanks

Most of our fish came on minnows under bobbers. I spooked countless fish with even subtle jigging.

Hey, Here a quick update on actual ice thickness or snow cover on trout. 14 inchs of ice pressure ridge out there. if you are  on a snowmobile if traveling fast on it watch for it. Truck or car i do not recommend on trout with pressure ridge. And yes i have been on the whitefish chain this year in truck. just not on trout. just my 2 cents

Thanks for the info everyone. And Borch that is good to know too.  I try to spend 2-3 hours looking on cedar each trip, but It's a lot of water to break down , and having only been out hardwater cattin 6 times so far I still have a lot to learn.  Generally I spend a lot of my 3 hours losing confidence and then wind up at the meth hole to catch a few .  Putting in the work is what makes it so fun once it all comes together though!
