3 posts in this topic

Hey fellas, just wondering if trucks are being let out yet on long point? I'm headed up tomorrow night (Thursday) with the 8x8 portable. Any word on the bite? Depth? If not does anyone have any other spots that have been hitting? crazy.gif Any help would appreciated. Thanks

King Fisher,

I was up at Long Point on Saturday. They were letting vehicles out. Ice was about 15-16 inches where we were fishing. Probably more on the road and probably a bit more after the cold today. Fishing was slow for us. We were in 26'. Got 5 keepers and a few smaller ones. No bites between 12:30pm and 4:30. Morning bite was best. Went to Zipple bay on Sunday and did better. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks for the report. Hopefully their biting by the time we get up there. I might try fishin in the 20-22 foot range. I like fishing shallower early in the year. I seem to have better luck that way. Either way we'll be heading to Zippel too if their not cooperating. Happy fishing.

The thumb nail method is tough for those that chew em!   I don't but know people who do.   I haven't used an official split ring pliers but a couple precision sizes have worked well.  This is a cheap set I like to have around.

I use forage minnows and other types of jigging spoons also. Usually tipped with minnow head or waxies.

Out of curiosity what do you all think this cost them?  Not including the truck damage.

i'm thinking of heading up and trying for some tulibees for the smoker- anyone been catching them?      how are the roads out to the flats?  i was thinking of coming on from the east side of the lake- maybe Hunters.

Decided to try trout fishing through the ice for the first time and it was awesome. We were setup in 80ft of water and were catching them 20 ft down jigging a silver kastmaster spoon. It was pretty cool to see how the fish acted with the underwater camera. They were like sharks when they came in. We had probably 30 or more trout come in and check out the bait but only few takers.  Was a lot of fun. Definitly going to explore more trout lakes. Doesn't get much better then fishing on lakes with no houses on them!    Here is a video of the trip with underwater video of the strikes:  https://youtu.be/6JuJhq-50X4
