Gopher Nation

Um....The era of "Gopher Nation" is upon us. Is anyone out there bold enough to offer a prediction for season 1? Season record? Bowl bound?

I'll say 5-7. only because they lost their qb, tight end, lots of defensive players and some of the O-line.

(YAWN)... Wha? whos playing where? Gold and Maroon? Oh, yea, they're the ones we are waiting for, right? Once the stadium is built, our problems are solved!

If Brewster does any better than 6-6 this year I say he will have earned his pay. Unless his unproven QB's really step up it will be a very mediocre season at best.

i only see them winning 1 or 2 games in the big ten so im gonna say 5 wins also.

Yep, I'll say they will win 2, maybe 3 games in the Big Ten if they are lucky. Not sure how Miami (OH) is this year, but assuming that they win all of their other non-conference games that will put them at 7-5 (optimistic) or 6-6.

They should be moving up in to polls since Brewster is making the team switch over to white football shoes to make them look "faster".

Wow...here we go again. LMAO.

You may be suprised LIMITOUT sometimes the shoes can make all the difference in the world like going to the Rose Bowl which Brew is predicting or ending up 0-8 in the Conference like Sports Illustrated is forcasting for us....

Go Brew.....DOAH!

I guess they were. Can't wait to listen to Barreiro on the Sunday Sermon tomorrow morning.

The U of M already used the excuse last year that "if they knew that they (CAL) were that good, they wouldn't have scheduled them". Oops...did they say that out loud?

Well I just got back from the game. If you saw the way the Gophers lost the bowl game last year, then you understand how Bowling Green attacked the Gophs in this game. The Gopher defense against the pass was absolutely terrible. No pass rush. No linebackers anywhere to cover the short stuff. And the d-backs were pathetic. The offense didn't look much better. This is a young, young team that will have a very tough year. The comeback was a positive and I liked how Brewster was actually involved in the game (as compared to Mason's lack of emotion). Keep in mind that this is still a Mason team, not a Brew Crew recruited team. I know this will be a transition year. We'll see how the recruiting goes and what comes of it next year.

Can they schedule Bemidji State next year or maybe concordia. Soon they have to find a team they are gauranteed to beat.

Game #2 of Gopher Nation is almost here. So how nervous do you think Brewster is today?

Bemidji has a good team for D2. It would be a good game.

1/8 oz Lindy Frostee Spoons in glow red are a killer choice too, sometimes you won't need bait and sometimes you will. When they are preferring bait I'll throw on a few waxies, a minnow head, or a whole minnow.

Haven't heard anything about Andrusia, haven't really seen anybody out there lately.

Resorts moving around to stay on walleyes. Warm weather and a lot of fish.  Most catching in 29-31 ft with glow red, chartreuse, pink and gold with a rattle on jigging spoons tipped with minnow head or tail.  Dead stick plain hook and live minnow or smaller jigs.  Walleye and sauger mix with a jumbo perch, eelpout and sturgeon as well. Electronics improving catch rate as fish are following jigs 4-5 feet off bottom to strike.  20"+ of ice on the lake in most areas along with only 3-6" of snow.  Ice roads allowing full sized vehicles.
The Rainy River has had a great morning and evening bite but lots of slush on the ice right now. Know the river or use a resort or guide for safety.   The snowmobile trail is staked from Wheeler's Point to Baudette on the river.  Do not deviate from trail unless you are familiar with ice conditions.   Great fishing continues up at the NW Angle.  20+ inches of ice on ice roads traveled by resorts in good shape.  Resorts are fishing in 21-29 feet of water with a nice walleye, sauger, and perch bite. Best colors include glow red, silver, pink, green and gold.  Slab crappies in good numbers being caught in Ontario in 28-34'.  Crappies caught in 25' or greater have high mortality rate, thus keep up to limit and move on to another species.  Work through resorts and stay on ice road.

Heard that a JD Gator went through the ice on Big C this morning.  Hard to believe as I've seen 15" and 16" of ice on Friday and Sunday, but maybe there was a crack???  Can anyone confirm?  I was hoping to take my sleeper out this weekend but that might make me a little nervous.

Those are easily my favorite panfish spoon. I use 1/16 for crappies and 1/32 for bluegills. I also modify them with a #8 or 10 single hook instead of the treble. It works much better for threading on some plastics, namely a Gulp waxie or a Clam Maki. On occasion, I will thread a real waxie on there.
