Carhardt Colliseum? grin.gif

Seriously though, a nice retractable roofed stadium called something like 3M Park would have been prudent.

that is a very true statement as I make a living in the weather field. but when it comes to late spring and summer, MPLS is one of the most pleasent climates in all of the USA. Miami,Dallas, Atlanta, tampa bay,Houston,St Louis, MILW, Cincy, Clev and even Chi have more rainouts and miserable weather than MPLS does in the summer, thou I know some of those cites have retractable roofs. I'd rather have a outdoor stadium in all months in MPLS other than April and baring a WS push.- and with the right team a cold Oct in MPLS might be too the Twins advat. I think too a retractable roof would have been a good thing, but if it was the difference between the dome and a outdoor park, give me the outdoor park and few weather problems just like most other cities come hurricane season and high unbearable humidity. I was at the olde Busch once when if you where not in the shade, you would almost pass out, none-the-less a few brews under your belt.

in the dome----- sucks for baseball period. the game is meant for the outdoors and 81 games played in a controlled enviro when it only saves about 10% of them from being played in miserable weather.... well we have had enough of the dome and time to bring on a outdoor stadium. Time for the smell of grass, outdoor air and playing in the great outdoors that MN offers. A nice gentle breeze on a warm summer night as the stars come out sitting in a good seat, I'll bring the brats and the beer.

I agree with you, you cant beat outdoor baseball, but this is mn. Ideal games dont happen very often.I would say 25% of the home games will be ideal, the other 75 % I will be shivering, sweating, or just waiting for the rain delay to stop, or driving an hour to get there, then finding out they arent going to play due to rain.

If I lived closer I would love to pick and choose the games I go to on that day of the game. But some of us have to pre buy our tix a month in advance drive and take off work early to get there before the game starts, then get there and find they arent playing that day. That will get discouraging after a couple times and wont want to chance it unless the weather forcast is ideal, but good luck getting tix for one of them games outside the stadiumon the day of the game.

Sure the metrodome is not the best in relation to crowd view of the field and facilities located within....but Ive never been as comfortable at an outdoor game as I am in the metrodome. Ive been to 6 outdoor mlb stadiums.

Went to the game on Sunday, yea the dump still sucks, the whole time I thought much nicer it would be sitting outside. Oh well, in time, and we still had fun anyway.

Good seats though, 17 rows back of 3rd base.

What a shot from Mornou. He has such a pretty swing.

Will be back in the same spot for the Sunday game between the Twin-Brewers.

that was a shot. The best part is that they are getting better. I think. Hopefully we are going to see a turn around. They are playing better ball right now. So we will see if they are going to be able to keep the ball rolling.

I think everyone can agree that a new stadium is needed in MN, but why go through all the effort and funding headaches to finally give up on the retractable roof idea.

I just don't agree with it. To me it's like building your dream house without a garage.

I agree it seems the Twins are back but I will reserve judgement until the next series. You never know. This could have been the White Sox starting their annual second half nose dive a little early this year. grin.gif

I cant agree more. Im glad that santana had a good outing there. I think there going to make a charge for the playoffs. It has to start soon, or there going to have a hard time getting back up.

I had the pleasure of watching the July 5 game in the Stadium. Not so enjoyable seeing a loss and hearing Sinatra sing instead of Streisand, but a close game and fun nonetheless. (Like the guy next to me said with Cuddyer up in the 9th, "Next pitch, the game could be ours, the game could be yours, take your pick.") Obvious Yankee pride shown at the usual times like the 3 HRs, and especially when Mariano came out, but for the most part 52,471 folks were sitting back knowing they were watching a dying team. Surprising how many times they were dependent on the flashing scoreboard slogans to get them to make some noise.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
