Let's home that the Turk visits Ponson after he gets the hook tonight.

They need to start scoring some runs. 1, 3, 3, 3 the last four games against mediocre teams with Detriot coming up. Looks like a repeat of last years April.

Down on the farm: Right-hander Kevin Slowey continued his outstanding run at Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday night when he gave up just two runs on three hits over seven innings in a 5-2 victory over Pawtucket. Slowey struck out nine in the outing and issued just one walk. For the season, Slowey is 3-0 with a 0.96 ERA. ...

Little Mr.Grienke almost caught himself a nice little beatdown.....I think Gardy Hollered from the dugout to tell Torii that he cant beat anyone up until Rondell comes off the DL.

No, I think I heard Gardy say we can't lose you your the only one hitting lately.

I saw it on FSN's "Twins Squeeze Play" and read Gardy's lips. He said, "Lemme go get you a bottle of champagne and you can use it to smack that Greinke upside the head."

Burn them May 6th tickets if it PONSON you could have a better night bbqing them tickets At least the beer would be cheaper than trying to make him look like a good pitcher

I would expect to see Garza or more likely Baker before Slowey. No need to rush Slowey...give him more time in the minors. Same with Garza, even though he has some ML experience. Go with Baker first, and only if he doesn't perform well do you go to Garza. Slowey...maybe a September call up, then work him into the mix next year.

Been a long rotten slump here Twins fans , aint no doubt about that . Seems nothing is working and I'm pretty frustrated . Not giving up but not happy . Hows everybody else feeling ? Packin' it in or do we have a shot to turn it around ? Me ? I'll give em' another 80 games or so to get on their feet , if they haven't by then - I don't think they will . Times like these seperate us fans from the bandwagon boys - so hang in there .

Guess I have to take back what I said about baker now that he's been pitching good in AAA as opposed to his horrid numbers in spring training (vs MLB hitters) but if I was the twins I still wouldnt call him up ever.

Its early yet, remember last season they were what 10 games under 500 at the all star break. Compared to last year we are doing alot better. I am not going to fall of the wagon just yet. Lots of injuries, some pitching adjustments needed, and we have another playoff team. Although I dont want another nail biter like last year. But it was nice to see the white sox get taken out of the playoffs in the last few games last year. He!He! grin.gif. Lets see how they are doing in late July, then I may fall off the wagon!

Only caught the last few innings tonite but sounded like they both pitched well and played well . I always want the game to be longer when they play good .

Did somebody say something about Baker earlier in this thread?

Until last year, I thought Baker looked like the heir apparent for Radke. (control and change speed pitcher) But last years debacle was hard to see. Looked like he thought he was throwing bp. His first start this year revived my hopes. cool.gif

Baker pitched great. I was at the game and was impressed. After Hardy's homerun, I thought here we go, but he pitched great. Question, what did the red hats say? They never anounced it at the game, or if they did I was too busy having some cocktails to understand.

BTW Miller park is an awesome stadium. Tailgating, open air, comfortable seats easy access to vendors. Everything about it was great.

Anyone else there this past weekend?

I was there last fall. That park is awesome. Everything about it is great. GIve everyone a great seat.

I sat out in left field, and ate and watch the game at the same time. Best part about the whole thing, they serve highlife beer on tap LOL

I was out there for the Saturday game too. Baker looked pretty good that night. I thought it was cool to see him get a standing ovation in someone elses ballpark! Man there were alot of Twins fans out there, every bar we were in was full of em too.

You are right, Miller park is sweet. Makes the dome really look like a dump. Hopefully our new stadium will be like it.

i think the new one is going to be top of the line. They are going to make it look sweet. I think its going to be something that is going to set the bar in the usa.

I cant see it as top of the line unless it has a roof.

Just look at how often Miller Park roof is closed. Im sorry but this is gonna be a huge mistake.

I agree, a huge mistake. and I have a slightly different reason why. Have you ever went to a day game in the summer? The upper deck is FULL of kids from their little league teams. The bus lot is overflowing. Now, how can you schedule a bus load of kids from Moorhead if you dont know if there even will be a game? Can you imagine heading up that busload of kids? Half are crying and half are releasing their disappoint in other ways. So, the Twins are basically saying, screw you to the kids of outstate MN. So I dont wanna hear even one word about any attendance problems, cuz they are making their own bed.

what is the name of the park going to be. i think they should have some corporate sponsor pay for the roof and then they could name the park after their company.

not having a roof on a baseball stadium in MN is like ice fishing without a heater. both can be done, and sometimes successfully, but both are far more enjoyable with the added convenience!

just look at how miserable the weather was this april for baseball in MN. cancelling games and playing doubleheaders is not going to benefit anybody, and it will happen with a open air stadium.

and all this nonsense about northern teams opening the season on two week roadtrips to warmer or covered ballparks isn't going to work either. what happens when the team comes home for the home opener and they are 2-11. who's going to buy tickets then.

I'd rather have a ballpark outdoors like B-ball should be and the risk of several games not being played or made up due to the weather than one game played in the dome. The dome is the worst stadium for B-ball and yes, a game will always be played when scheduled, but for as many bad days in early April- a few wonderful evenings with the game outdoors is worth it in my book. It keeps the Twins in MN for a lot longer than playing in the dome. the olde Met was a good ballpark and no one then complained about a postponed game in april. ALso- rather goto a game in april with the temp in the 40's in MN than a game in STL in July with temp in the high 90's and dewpoint in the 70's. wrigley has no roof- and they get along just fine and have for years and they are nearly at the same latitude as MN with more moisture overall than MN.

Boston and NYY also seem to fair pretty well with no roof.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
