aqua-vu problem

My screen on my aqua-vu scout went funny and when I pulled up my camera there was water on the inside. It is two years old and I dont think there is any warranty left. Has anyone else had this problem.

Sounds about right... Are Gander had almost everyone sold returned last season with camera leaking issues and then ka-put just as you described. Hence the blowout sale of the leftover scouts this season. Most paid extra for the MarCum VS350 and have been quite pleased with it except for the fin notch for viewing there a bit tight but with a touch of a dremel or round file can be opened up a little more to accept the cable. I just got a VS 250 and can't wait to try it.

Actually Tim, they are getting rid of the Scouts because of the Scout 2's. And the new products in the pipeline for 07' I'm sure the majority of the returned scouts were for water in the camera. But you don't generally send back a perfectly good camera?

Do you know if there is a recall on that problem, or should I take apart the camera and try fix it myself.

I was having some problems with my Aqua-Vu also this past outing. Last year I broke off the tail of the fish (camera), but I have I have used it a number of times in that condition since. This last time I was out though I flipped on the camera and the picture on the screen was slowly shifting upwards until completely off screen. Also, the screen appeared as though it was blank before it shifted upwards. Anyways, I turned on the unit when I got back home and it worked just fine for a minute before shifting off screen again. Now the unit won't even turn on. Water obviously leaked into the camera where the tail was broken. I am just wondering is the camera fried now? In hindsight I should have just paid the $20 for the fish casing.

Not trying to hijack here, just thought we might be having the same problem.

Reynolds, Water wouldn't have leaked in where the fish camera fin broke. Your issue may only be a low battery.

There is no recall on that as it really isn't a large issue at times it can happen if you cut the cable with Mono. Call the girls in Customer Service and they will treat you right.

Anyone with Aqua-Vu questions or service needs may certainly call Nature Vision Customer Service toll free at 866-777-0733. Many times we can trouble-shoot problems over the phone, but if water has entered the camera housing on any units - we urge you to call us for assistance in replacing the camera.

I have a scout that has not had any problems with water leaking into the camera, but after reading this, I am thinking it might be wise to seal up the seams in the camera unit with a thin bead of sealant like RTV silicone.

What do you guys think? I can't see a downside to doing that. It seems like a simple way to avoid the problem...

can a 12 volt battery be jumped to the battery in the unit with no harm done as long as +to+ and -to- castindad

KarenH from Nature Vision again. The Fishskin that covers the camera is purely cosmetic, and it wouldn't benifit you to try to seal it over. Water normally will get behind the plastic skin, and will drain out when you pull the camera out of the water.

You would have to remove both sides of the skin and the interior weights to see the entire waterproof housing of the camera. And I must caution against the use of any corrosive epoxy that may damage or react the polycarbonate housing material.

      Had 30 feet of ice out from my Stuntz Bay boathouse on Tuesday afternoon.  None inside the boathouse so I was easily able to remove my boat from the lake (just pushed the ice away in reverse and drove forward through it with my 16 foot aluminum boat).  Didn't hook up my battery so I didn't get the lake temp.  Were lots of boat trailers parked at the landing.  Hope they get off the lake easily.  Will be ice fishing in 4 weeks.

      On the South Shore...  It's deer hunting season in MN and not many are out fishing.  Those that are fishing are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and excellent walleye and sauger bite that is happening across the lake.   The best depths on the south end of LOW are 22-28 feet of water.     No surprise, vertical jigging with frozen emerald shiners is the program for most anglers.  Anglers are going through a lot of frozen emerald shiners as the walleyes and saugers are all mixed sizes.  You will catch small ones and your eaters.  Depending upon where on the lake you are fishing, some slots and big trophies are in the mix as well.    Anglers are also reporting very good numbers of jumbo perch this fall.  Watch out for an occasional pike or even lake sturgeon mixed in with the walleyes.      Good numbers of fish are staged in great spots for the upcoming ice fishing season. On the Rainy River...  Good numbers of shiners again in the river this past week. Typically, if there are shiners, there will be walleyes, and there definitely are.     Walleyes are coming from various spots from Four Mile Bay to Wheeler's Point, to Baudette all the way to Birchdale.  With so many anglers taking advantage of the deer hunting season, there are not a lot of boats on the river.      Walleyes are being caught in 10-25 feet of water in various stretches of the river.  The bait and consequently, walleyes, are moving around.  Once you find some fish, you will be rewarded. Jigging with live or frozen emerald shiners is the way to go. Some anglers are also still trolling crankbaits upstream to cover more ground and find fish. Both methods are producing solid results. Sturgeon fishing remains strong.  The catch-and-release sturgeon fishing is open into the spring when it changes to the "keep season" on April 24th. Up at the NW Angle...  For those not in the woods hunting, fall fishing continues to be excellent.  It is areas with structure holding walleyes in this part of the lake.  Points, neck-down areas with current, shoreline breaks, and transition zones from rock to mud are all productive locations for walleye right now.     A nice mixed bag with perch, pike and crappies being caught as well. Good muskie fishing with the colder water temps and shorter days.  Some big fish and some good numbers are being caught amongst the islands.  Both casting and trolling is getting it done.

      Yes.  No lightning strikes in the area on Saturday and a tree was burning.  The squirrel hunters have been a nuisance this year with more activity in our area then we have ever seen.  This was the 3rd fire in the section of woods in the past 2 weeks.  Most definitely not caused by natural events.

      Haha!  No… In other news: All the cell cams users that I talk with are seeing some daylight movement of adult bucks since yesterday.  No deer hunters want to be at work right now.

      The water temps on the west end Friday were 45 in HeadOLakes and 44 in the smaller bays.

      You didn't Sluice um! 😆 I was driving 94 passed Runnings in Monticello yesterday late after noon and saw a huge, thick dark brown 8 point running alone the freeway with its tongue out.  Thinking he was after a girlfriend! 😜
