Sartell Angler

Here are a few late entries. These pictures from November mark the last hunt we had the privilege of sharing with our golden, Hunter. We were forced to put him to sleep on Jan. 3rd of this year after his health grew worse and worse. The pictures were taken with a cheap 35mm camera I always keep in my blind bag but I think this closeup of him watching for birds through the grass is one of the best we have of him. It was truly a hunt remember.

Sartel, sorry to heat about Hunter. I know that feeling all to well! Had to put my lab down last year as well. Many great memories of her though! I miss her when I am out hunting, she never talked much but she sure was a good listener! And as far as I know never divulged any secrets! Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

I don't get it, and have a question. Where and how do we vote? I thought this was just a freindly competition between FM members, but I don't see any links on how we get to vote on them. Did I miss something? Lastly, if it is something where other people are voting on it, when does that happen?

Just curious,

Tom W

Nitroant - nice geese!! I think I know where you got those geese!! That appears to be my father-in-laws land. How do you know him??

That can be a phenominal spot at times and looks like you did rather well yourself!!

Buzzsaw,

I emailed Art barbarians about it this last spring. Got a reply back saying they were to busy to do anything with it at that time. Wasn't there supposed to be judging and prizes????

yes that was the plan. I know Adam was taking care of this for Chris (owner) and Adam ending up moving back to southern MN and had a ton of things on his plate. I spoke to these guys back at the Game Fair at the Armstrong Ranch a short while back and as far as I was told it was still alive... just way behind schedule. I will say that these guys are really good peeps and do great framing!

Could you explain how this would violate the Governor's order? I don't recall him including this in the order. Also, the part where you say buying tackle is a violation of his order because it would not be essential.  One part of his order is that it is essential to get outside. There is medical support for this in both physical and mental health. Fishing is not canceled because it is one way to get outside and an easy way to apply social distancing for our own health. In this case, stopping at the bait shop to pick up tackle would be an essential. Stopping at the bait shop to just browse would not be essential and that would be a violation of the governor's orders. Two different things.   What the governor's order does say is that if we are going out and about we must use precautions and exercise social distancing guidelines.    If you don't feel comfortable being out and about, maybe part of the problem is that you have cooped yourself up too much and are becoming too depressed. There is medical evidence to support this hypothesis.

Mine in MN is only 35" and caught at least 3 that big targeting pike, though I don't intentionally target large pike and am not a fan of musky fishing.  I've netted up to 38" for others in MN.  In Canada it is 45".  Talk about not a big enough net!  My younger brother was the net man and when he saw it coming up with the mouth open he turned around and handed the net to my other brother.  Net did not work anyway we had to grab it almost swamped the boat.  Happily let it go unharmed fortunately.

Headed out yesterday and one coho on a spoon trolled behind a board. That, and cold hands.   It was nice to be back on in the water

.   What is your personal best Minnesota Pike? Were you targeting Pike when you caught it?   Mine is 42" from a shallow lake North of me. It was very skinny for a 42" fish. I caught it while fishing for Bass on a spinnerbait. Water was very warm and unfortunately I wasn't able to revive it. I contrast that to a 42" Pike caught in Canada trolling. That fish absolutely stopped the bait on the strike.   Learned a very good lesson that day. Always have a decent size net in the boat, the fish don't know what species you are after.

There are the unavoidable few that mess it up either on purpose or by ignorance but I think most people get it close enough; at least that is what the latest data are showing.  Hopefully that will hold.   I work in development and sterile manufacturing of biopharmaceutical drugs so I have a strong understanding.  Our bar is way higher than health care providers (that's why I make great beer!).  I am actually quite shocked what they call sterile.  Not that what they do is necessarily wrong, but it certainly is not sterile.   Case in point.  I was appalled at the heartwarming story of the 95 year old in the MN nursing home that could not spend her birthday with her family.  To lift her spirits, the entire staff of the nursing home...like 20 people...came into her little room where she was bed ridden and sang her happy birthday.  Big hearts, ignorant brains in that scene.  And on TV promoting the wrong approach where we should be the most careful.

No, I don’t believe everyone gets it the way you and I do.  You may not think I really do get it but I do and I think most folks here do too.     I’ll be careful for other’s health and welfare as best I can.  Peace to you as well. 😇
