Well that was the first one!! Twins are still looking (Contact Us Please) good!!! Santana tomorrow - good chance to be within one of the wild card game! Need to make a trade of some sort, whether pitching or offense, but need a big name to help out down the stretch!!

GO TWINS!!

Just why do we need a trade? 16 games over .500 playing the best ball in baseball the last month, so what is so broke that we need to fix?

Posted

yeah why make a trade and break up the great streak that we are on. We have the best clubhouse in baseball. We are all clicking so no changes should be made that would possibly break it up especially for someone with a name and and ego bigger that his head. Keep it the same. And as far as Santana tomorrow remember he does have to duel Contreras at Chicago so it isnt a gimme. Also as far as the wild card goes we need to deal with the Yankees also, Chicago isnt our only worry with the WC.

Why make a trade? Well because your 4th and 5th starters( I realize they will skip Baker) suck. And for all these years we always needed a bat. Not this year.

Posted

Yeah I agree totally there but we are talking about Carlos Lee who is a hitter not a pitcher. I would say okay to getting a pitcher but we dont need Lee. According to ESPN.com Barry Zito is up for trade why not go get him then right. So yes I agree trade up for a good pitcher but not a hitter.

We need a pitcher plain and simple. Who do the Twins have for a 4th starter??? I would much rather see the Twins go after a need than a want.

Posted

Absolutely,

Except the Twins don't like to trade prospects, and in order to acquire a big name pitcher, whatever team is going to want a lot in return, either out top prospects plus, or our top players, we can't trade any of our offense right now, Lohse and Baker have little trade value in themselves, so what do we have to offer. Maybe Hunter wrapped into the deal? That would be fine with me. Stewart? He has little trade value also.... I would be surprised if the Twins make a big move, not their style. They never do and they will probably never start. But I agree with another quality starter, we would be virtually unbeatable. Every teams #5 starter is suspect, so that position in the rotation isn't as critical.

It will be a good one tonight!

Speaking of prospects, I just read that Matt Garza throws four different pitches and his fastball hit's from 91 - 97 mph and is consistant around 95 mph. A scout labeled him as a can't miss first tier starter in the league! Bring him up!!

Posted

I think we will see Garza at some point but he is really really young. He flew through A, AA, and AAA ball and I think they are a little worried about bringing him up too fast. He needs to be able to handle the pressure of a playoff race. Thats a tough spot to put a kid like that into when its his first big league appearance.

But who knows maybe he comes up and is lights out and we go to the world series, you won't see me complaining.

Thats why I believe they will bring him up, he is lights out at all levels and the Twins have a legit chance of doing something this year. Besides, he can't be a whole lot younger than our three most productive players... Mauer, Liriano & Morneau.

I tend to side with nofish here. I think as long as the Twins are in the hunt they will not bring Garza up. They took their time with Liriano and they probably will do the same with Garza.

I believe I heard an interview a few weeks back with TR on KFAN and it didn't sound like the #5 starter was going to be used all that much the rest of the year due to the schedule and days off, etc. I'm guess they will stick with Silva as the #4 guy.

Posted

Garza is only in his first year of minor league ball, we drafted him in 2005.

Even Liriano had more time in the minors then tat. One year with us and probably atleast one with the Giants.

I think they would bring Garza up if we are out of the chase just to give him experience but I think they will tread lightly when it comes to throwing him into a playoff chase during his first few starts of his career.

Aww, you guys might be right..... or maybe not. Like the two hit wonder band Asia sang "Only time will tell". I still say we see him if he continues to light up AAA and Silva and Baker stink up the 4/5th spots in the rotation.

Posted

I think we might see him but only if there is no other option.

Posted

I don't think we will see him, Twins have a track record of moving slowly and developing their young players. Remember this is the Big Leagues and anyone here can kill a fast ball. I would like to here more from Bert talking about a four man rotation. But that is Bert and he thinks ball players now are babied to much with their pitch count.

They MUST get Lee if they have the chance. Give up Baker and Kubel and sign him to a Five year deal. That MUST be part of it.

It will be the NUKES ARMS race and we must win. If the Motor City Kitties and the SUX improve -- we must as well.

I said we had a good chance tonight - I wasn't certain, got a little hairy but we did prevail and are 1 game behind in the wild card race.

For those of you think we are good standing pat - I disagree, almost every team in the hunt will make moves to improve down the stretch and we need to do the same thing. Like I said whether pitching, offense or both, we need to make a move of some sort!! I am all for C Lee bring him on!! Our pitching is better than our offense right now so lets bring on the offense.

On another subject - Silva or Lohse? Who should be number 4?

I got a feeling I will hear from both sides and there will even be some that will say neither and can't argue for or against either decision, I just don't know????? what to do???

It won't ever be Lohse again, he's been banished to the relief duties and will probably be traded by the deadline. Silva unfortunately will get bombed this afternoon by the sox, he has been horrible. frown.gif

The Twins dont have a 4 or 5 starter worth a hoot. They could use another pitcher, but will they spend the cash?

I wonder where the Twins would be right now with one more stud pitcher and a power hitter like Ortiz? I know every team can say this but some will go get it.

Running on empty at dark on a sled is definitely stress-inducing. Been there, done that. Glad that you made it out.

Eagle swoops are always a hoot to watch.   The snow is mostly gone on the lake. Ice melt made things pretty wet but the ice is obviously still very thick.

On the South Shore...  The big question:  "How is the ice up at Lake of the Woods?"  That is for each individual resort or outfitter who operates an ice road or trail to answer, but overall, ice conditions are still very good and ice fishing is going strong!  As always, stay on the marked ice  roads and trails for safety.     Being up on the Canadian border, the colder temps Lake of the Woods enjoys vs much of the region combined with three feet of ice makes a big difference.  Fish houses are allowed unattended overnight through March 31st and it sounds like a good number of resorts will be fishing through the month, but ultimately, Mother Nature will determine that.     Regarding the fishing, overall, very good reports for walleyes, saugers and perch.  There is a strong population of smaller walleyes and saugers in the lake which bodes well for the future, but in the meantime, anglers are sorting through them to catch their keepers.   The one-two punch of jigging and deadsticking remains the most effective technique. Jigging spoons with rattles tipped with a minnow head or a lipless crankbait on the jigging line is the ticket.  On the deadstick, a live minnow a foot off the bottom on a plain red hook or medium sized ice fishing jig is catching a lot of fish.   Using electronics is super helpful.  Many nice walleyes are swimming through suspended, keep an eye out.   Anglers tip-up fishing for pike have had a great week and it should continue to get even better.  Suckers, frozen alewife and smelt are working well. Putting baits 1 foot under the ice or right off bottom seems to be effective this week.  Most common depths, 9 - 15 feet. On the Rainy River...  The Rain River is still frozen with no signs of open water yet.  Every year can be different, but on average, the Rainy River will start opening up around the third week of March.  The first boat ramp suitable for larger boats is Nelson Park in Birchdale.  We will keep you posted.    As of March 1st, walleyes and saugers are catch and release only on Four Mile Bay and the Rainy River.     Make plans now for sturgeon season.  Once the open water appears, the fish are super active.  Here are the seasons...   -Catch and Release Season: May 8th – May 15th and October 1 – April 23rd. -Harvest Season: April 24th – May 7th and July 1 – September 30. -Closed Season: May 16th – June 30th.  Up at the Northwest Angle...  Fishing remains very good up at the Angle and the ice is in good shape as well.  As on the south end, resorts monitor ice roads and trails daily and there are still some great ice fishing opportunities available.     Walleyes, saugers, perch, and pike are showing up in good numbers.  Those targeting crappies are reporting good numbers of fish.  Work through a NW Angle resort for ice fishing opportunities on this part of the lake. The walleye and sauger season is open through April 14th. Pike fishing never closes, and perch and crappie remain open year-round as well. Whether booking a day house rental, sleeper fish house, or resort stay, there is still plenty of time to plan a late-season ice fishing adventure.

Looks like a shallow lake with some potential.  Keepable crappies, decent bluegills and some nice perch according to the last survey (2015). Susan Lake   With a max depth of 10 feet, I’d want to know a little more about it before I’d start drilling holes.  Could be a nice little adventure though.

Jeff and I fished Saturday and half day Sunday, targeting whitefish, ciscos, crappies, and perch.  The bite was tough for us.  We ecked out a few, but nothing special.  Highlight of the weekend was the sled ride into Wolf Lake and having an eagle swoop in and eat a rock bass we had on the ice.  All in all, not a bad way to waste time.
