If you found the honey hole of a lifetime would you share it with your best friend?......I would have to think long and hard about it as I have shared before and somehow the word got out and my honey holes are no more...except for the two that I have not even told my wife about grin.gif

Posted

I would because i mainly fish in small groups and i wouldnt be able to go to it without them so i would share it and they probably wouldnt go tellin other people

sure, why not....share the wealth. frown.gifcrazy.gif

Not a chance... he can't keep his big mouth shut! I'd take my Dad.

I have the same problem, shared with one freind, now he fishes them all the time, with other freinds of his.............

I will never tell anyone of my newest honey hole.

In the sage words of 'Widetrack'.....fisky will spill the beans stone cold sober! Most of my buds are fairly tightlipped forunatly.

I'd tell ya, but then I'd maybe have to kill ya!

Nah, my best friend has a mouth you could drive a VW into, he'd tell everyone, swear he didn't do it and be willing to fight anyone that said he did!

All the guys in the other boats would be waving at him and calling him by name and he would say something like "How the #%@& did they find this spot? Someone musta tole em? Now we ain't gonna catch nuthin...don't let em see ya pull nuthin in!"

If I find a good spot...I got a couple of good pards that aren't necessarily my best friends, but they can be trusted with good news about fishing, that isn't meant for the wire, I'd tell them.

I suppose you could always use the line, "I could tell ya, but then I'd have to kill you." Might take some of the interest out of the whole situation, especially if you had bloodshot eyes from fishing the night before and a scowl on your mug. Heck, play it crazy enough and they might not ever even want to think about following you or chasing after you in the binoculars. Then again, you might just have to use the biggins as a decoy and let them follow you to a different spot, then you say, "Geeze you shoulda been here yesterday when those big ones were biting!" Depending on how good of friend they are, you might just want to take them out to the spot but before you get on the water grab them by both legs and spin them around untill their eyes roll back into their heads. Then drive them to a different lake and put them in the boat and if you only catch little ones use excuse #2 once again. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, if you do decide to take them out to the spot the extra strong electromagnet I have planted in the seat will put off the coordinates that they are trying to get with the hidden GPS. Course, it nearly killed my father-in-law due to the skipping of his pacemaker but a spot is a spot, right? shocked.gifgrin.gif

I have always told friends and ruined the spot for myself. If it was a dad and his kids, yes I would spill it all.I'am not quite as open as I use to be as I have to much company most of the time.

Well, my dad doesn't fish with me too much anymore, but if I were to find a honey hole, I'd let him know. He only goes out when I go out, and he doesn't tell people, so he'd be one person I could easily tell. Same with my brother....he used to fish all the time with me, but now doesn't even buy a license. I could tell him too, because it doesn't much matter to him anymore.

As for telling anyone else, there are 3 people on this site I would tell, and have told, where I've been getting fish. These 3 guys I can completely trust and have no worries whatsoever telling them where I've found fish. Besides, their honey holes are way better than any of mine, so.... tongue.gifgrin.gif

If it was a place nobody else ever could have stumbled across I would tel nobody. I would only let it out on the big tourney day and then swear my partner to secrecy for life. grin.gif

Nt really. It wouldnt be much fun unless I could share it with someone. Even if just for 1 day.

Now if it was full of record fish I wouldnt tel a soul! wink.gif

How big is this honey hole?

Spots change.

If we're talking a very small lake, probably no.

If we're talking about the spot on a spot on a larger lake, why not?

What "honey-hole"? I don't know what you're talking about. smirk.gif

The majority of my friends are into bass fishing, I will tell them all of my hotspots. What I caught, what I was using, and what time of the day. If the fishing is that good I would even call them from my boat and see if they want to meet me on the lake. They all support CPR. Now if it were my dad, I would definetly just bring him along, he loves to catch panfish, we will look for crappies, sunnys, and if we are lucky perch. I can still fish for Bass in these spots. Like that has been said, fish move from spot to spot. If it were someone that does not get out a lot, I would do the same as mentioned above, time of day, location...etc. I generally do not keep going to the same spots, sometimes same lakes different spots, I like a challenge and I like to fine tune my fishing capabilities by finding the next "honey hole".

I have a honey hole that I fish with a couple of friends. One of them brought a bunch of people there for opener. I wasn't real happy about it. When they got there it was flooded and they didn't catch anything. What a relief!

I will never tell anyone that my honey spot is on the south west corner of lake XXX grin.gif

We found a great little metro bass lake that had some huge gills in it too. Not many people fished this particular lake due to it had no public landing, limited parking and was a little bit of a walk to get their. We would rarely see anybody on this lake until my father had to brag about it to some work friends. Well you know how it goes, he told two friends who told two friends and so on and so on!! Before you know it you had people driving on a trail where no motor vehicles were allowed. It didn't take long for this lake to deplete after we would see group after group taking out limits of bass. (Note this was years ago, when more kept bass). Won't make the mistake of tell my own father of any of my honey holes.

Me and my brother just recently started fishing or flatties and had a good night took some pictures and emailed them to our family. Within 10 minutes my dad was on the phone with me wanting to know all the details. I told him we caught them on bullheads on the Minnesota River between Shakopee and Mankato - End of story. You find a nice shore flattie spot you don't tell anybody. We blindfolded my brothers best friend when we brought him there! HEHEHE! Not really but it was mentioned!!

Good information is valuable. I like to get as much as possible and will give some in exchange. Maybe not the exact spot and time, but method and technique.

Honey holes move! Lakes don't!

SO... on a large lake.. I will tell people good spots.. since each summer they seem to come and go anyway... but as for a small 'secret' lake.. I'd never tell a soul!

Maybe if my boat was on fire and I couldn't put it out without help. grin.gifwink.gif

I've called my pals many times to let them know a honey hole was on a bite only to have them call back and tell me I was full of you know what. Fishing spots are fleeting. Everyone knows the old saying "you should have been here yesterday"

We have a lake up in Canada that I would never give up, I mean never. I usually catch at least one 40" pike per trip, and probably hundreds of smallies, all in the upper teens and a few in the twenties. We've taken some guys up there, but not that would be able to find it again, or that would have the means to get there. I probably would do the blindfold idea, lol!

My friends and I share those kind of spots. None of us are fish hogs so its no problem.

Posted

Most of my fishing buddies, yes I would tell them, but my main fishing buddy works in a bait shop so I would have to use this quote.

Quote:

What "honey-hole"? I don't know what you're talking about.
smirk.gif

Only because if you work in a bait shop you get asked constantly and I think it would come out.

I know a fantastic honey hole but I haven't found anyone willing to go in there with me. The problem? It's in a somewhat remote area and would take a fair amount of effort and time to get in there. Too bad! I usually always catch and release walleye's in the 8 to 10 pound range. 1DIRTBALL wink.gif

I would tell my bestfriend, why not share it? We have a pretty good relationship and keep things on the hush-hush around others about these "honey holes". Most things stay between ourselves on fish related spots.

He always gives me a bad time about being on FM because when I'm out, I always say were I'm at grin.gif Of course I'll talk about stuff in general, but will keep those honey holes quiet.

Running on empty at dark on a sled is definitely stress-inducing. Been there, done that. Glad that you made it out.

Eagle swoops are always a hoot to watch.   The snow is mostly gone on the lake. Ice melt made things pretty wet but the ice is obviously still very thick.

On the South Shore...  The big question:  "How is the ice up at Lake of the Woods?"  That is for each individual resort or outfitter who operates an ice road or trail to answer, but overall, ice conditions are still very good and ice fishing is going strong!  As always, stay on the marked ice  roads and trails for safety.     Being up on the Canadian border, the colder temps Lake of the Woods enjoys vs much of the region combined with three feet of ice makes a big difference.  Fish houses are allowed unattended overnight through March 31st and it sounds like a good number of resorts will be fishing through the month, but ultimately, Mother Nature will determine that.     Regarding the fishing, overall, very good reports for walleyes, saugers and perch.  There is a strong population of smaller walleyes and saugers in the lake which bodes well for the future, but in the meantime, anglers are sorting through them to catch their keepers.   The one-two punch of jigging and deadsticking remains the most effective technique. Jigging spoons with rattles tipped with a minnow head or a lipless crankbait on the jigging line is the ticket.  On the deadstick, a live minnow a foot off the bottom on a plain red hook or medium sized ice fishing jig is catching a lot of fish.   Using electronics is super helpful.  Many nice walleyes are swimming through suspended, keep an eye out.   Anglers tip-up fishing for pike have had a great week and it should continue to get even better.  Suckers, frozen alewife and smelt are working well. Putting baits 1 foot under the ice or right off bottom seems to be effective this week.  Most common depths, 9 - 15 feet. On the Rainy River...  The Rain River is still frozen with no signs of open water yet.  Every year can be different, but on average, the Rainy River will start opening up around the third week of March.  The first boat ramp suitable for larger boats is Nelson Park in Birchdale.  We will keep you posted.    As of March 1st, walleyes and saugers are catch and release only on Four Mile Bay and the Rainy River.     Make plans now for sturgeon season.  Once the open water appears, the fish are super active.  Here are the seasons...   -Catch and Release Season: May 8th – May 15th and October 1 – April 23rd. -Harvest Season: April 24th – May 7th and July 1 – September 30. -Closed Season: May 16th – June 30th.  Up at the Northwest Angle...  Fishing remains very good up at the Angle and the ice is in good shape as well.  As on the south end, resorts monitor ice roads and trails daily and there are still some great ice fishing opportunities available.     Walleyes, saugers, perch, and pike are showing up in good numbers.  Those targeting crappies are reporting good numbers of fish.  Work through a NW Angle resort for ice fishing opportunities on this part of the lake. The walleye and sauger season is open through April 14th. Pike fishing never closes, and perch and crappie remain open year-round as well. Whether booking a day house rental, sleeper fish house, or resort stay, there is still plenty of time to plan a late-season ice fishing adventure.

Looks like a shallow lake with some potential.  Keepable crappies, decent bluegills and some nice perch according to the last survey (2015). Susan Lake   With a max depth of 10 feet, I’d want to know a little more about it before I’d start drilling holes.  Could be a nice little adventure though.

Jeff and I fished Saturday and half day Sunday, targeting whitefish, ciscos, crappies, and perch.  The bite was tough for us.  We ecked out a few, but nothing special.  Highlight of the weekend was the sled ride into Wolf Lake and having an eagle swoop in and eat a rock bass we had on the ice.  All in all, not a bad way to waste time.
