I think this is a good idea. I have thursday and friday off. I usually fish tonka, chisago lakes area, or mile lacs but would be open to recommendations. walleye, bass, northern, crappie-in that order. I would rather catch one walleye over 24" than a limit of keepers. My boat or yours. This week I am taking the lady to the pond but next week or the rest of the summer/fall with a week notice I would be game. I love to troll crank after dark in the fall. I often have an open seat. email at [email protected]

I have a very flexible schedule at work. So if its a hot muggy day out and i know there will be a storm later that night . . . You bet ill drop what im doing and go fishing!!!

It's not the metro area, but I will be on West Battle Lake Sunday evening by myself if someone would like to come along for some Walleye action.

If anyone would be willing to take me with I would love to get out on tonka some evening since I don't have a boat. I could probably make it to the lake around 6 any night of the week. I like to chase muskie's and walleyes. I would like to compare spots I know to spots that others know. I will even bring the beer laugh.gif

Greetings. Sorry I missed that post, Daze Off, I would have taken you up on that offer in a NY minute. I recently just discovered these boards, fabulous resource, can't believe I hadn't found this before. I live in Andover, been here since 1999, grew up in Spring Lake Park, know Anoka Co. fishing holes pretty well. I had a boat & had to sell it due to a divorce, saving up for a new one, hopefully later this year. In the interim, if anyone in the NW Anoka Co. area wants some company or is willing to take someone on, I'd be only happy to oblige, and will happily contribute to bait, gas, etc.

I've discovered some nice places to fish being boatless, had a lot of fun & done pretty well on Lake Cenaiko (that trout stamp paid for itself on opening day) & the River, and I've even caught a couple of nice bronzebacks off that pier at the Rum River North county park in St. Francis. Being boatless finally got me to learn fly fishing, and I've had more fun in two weekends at Whitewater State Park than all my years backtrolling flatfish for ol' glasseye. But getting out on the open water - I'd never turn it down, and of course I have a lot of time on my hands now for fishing wink.gif

Please PM me or email for contact info. Thanks again to whoever came up with the idea for this thread - only in Minnesota!! smile.gif

I go out most weekdays usually from 2-9pm or so. Many NE metro lakes. If you have no boat.. give me a jingle.. we'll work out a time and place. (I basically target only bass.. but am willing to learn other species- or lakes I haven't tried - from you)

Heading to prior lake tomorrow AM for a few hours if anyone is intersted. Bass fishing.

Any chance you are going early? I'd love to join you. My rig or yours? I have a 16' Crestliner with plenty of room.

I don't have a boat. But I'd enjoy getting out this weekend on Sat or Sun AM from a boat. I've no qualms about getting out early. Metro area anywhere is ok by me. No picky about species.

I'm "allowed" to go fishing Friday nights around 5:30 and Sundays (usually go out around 6 or 7 am). I just bought a 17' boat. I'm pretty new to boating, had a little trouble the first time out with trailering, just have to get used to it. Anyway, I usually have extra seats. I love to fish for anything, but am new to fishing from a boat. Anyone wanting to go out and learn together or show me some tricks are welcome. I live in St. Paul, so like to try lakes within a decent distance from the house. You can email me at [email protected] .

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
