Value of Old Cane Poles

Anyone know where I could look to see what two 16'& one 18 1/2' one piece Bamboo cane poles would be worth? Don't know of a time but they are OLD and in very good shape. We were cleaning out my grandpa's garage and he had them.

Post this is the fly fishing forum.. they were helpful to me when I did the same thing.. got 2 old rods from my uncle who passed and one sold for $400 or so on eBay.. I was hoping to get even $20! And some.. if you are lucky.. are worth thousands.

Post some photos of them on the fly forum.

I hate to burst a guys bubble, but what you have are just exactly what you called them-bamboo poles. They are not bamboo rods. I'd save 'em and use them for panfish. Lots of fun with an old wooden bobber. Somebody MIGHT buy them, but it would be for a couple bucks...thats all.

Ignore that.. I don't know what Ufatz is talking about... he didn't read my post obviously.. since I made $400 on one old junk (to me) bamboo cane pole!

Rods.. poles.. whats the difference..

All I know is I made $450 selling two of them.. very old and brittle and of no use to anyone other than collectors... but they did fetch a good price considering they were free. ItsaKeeper- Just list them on eBay with plenty of pix and you will earn some dollars.

As they say... "One mans junk is another mans treasure"...

A one piece cane pole is a lot different item then a split- bamboo fly rod! Which is what you had to have to get over $400.00 on E-Bay!

Sorry Sly, it sounds like Ufatz is right on this one. Split bamboo fly rods weren't made to the length that he's asking about, either. They're long dapping poles, not fly rods, from the description. There might be an aficianado out there who will take them off your hands, but not likely for the price you were able to pull in...

Isn't an old cane pole just an old piece of cane? Although they do have a longer life, they get just like any other piece of wood.

My dad was a cane pole fisherman and I to started out with one. Over time they got old just like anything else. I'm sure that if we would have kept them inside, they would have lasted longer, but, they lasted long enough.

They lose the color if not somehow preserved, they dry out and get brittle and they split. The supple ends break off and pretty soon they are like fishing with a broom handle.

They used to have 8-10 in a bunch outside at the bait stores, just take your pick. I wouldn't even know where to get one now?

A fisherman can pick up sectional bamboo poles and fiberglass sectional poles, but I havn't seen one of them long one piece jobs for alot of years. Probably would be expensive to buy new?
