Guys if you take ESPN's poll at the bottom you will see we are not alone! I thought this was kinda fun to see!

It was poorly officiated but the Seahawks didnt do much too help there cause. The push off i didnt like, the holding call i didnt like, the call on Hasselbeck illegal block below the waste on the INT was totally horrid. The Jackson non catch at the end of the first half, as i understand it, the foot hitting the pylon isnt like the ball hitting the pylon so i dont think that was a bad call. As far as the Big Ben TD i thought he got a piece over and at the very least it was very evident after one replay that it was so close, and that there sure as heck wasnt any evidence showing the ball not going over, that there was no way the play would be reversed. There is no way they were going too reverse that call made on the field.

I see it about the way you do James. I thought Jackson's inability to know where the sideline was, at least twice, cost them huge. Stevens inability to catch the ball at least three times & at least twice for very large gains, was huge. The officiating was horrible. The Steelers made three huge plays offensively, all of which exposed huge mistakes by Seattle's D. Rothlisburger did get 2-3 big first downs running at key times. Those were the difference in the game in my eyes, along with the missed FG's.

I was happy to see the Steelers win, but I don't bet on games & I surely would have been happy to see Seattle win too.

I'm not a gambler, but didn't Vegas lose on this weekend? From the reports I heard the majority of bets placed where going to Pittsburgh and I thought the spread was only around 4 which they covered. WOuldn't that result in a majority out in paying those who bet Steelers? Someone more in the know could probably clarify better. I looked for some reports, but couldn't find any.

If I recall this morning on the Mike & Mike show on ESPN 2 I think they said a total of 95 million was placed and Vegas took in 9% of that, I may be wrong but I think that is what they said.

That guys a nut job, but I guess some people like him... not me for the most part.... he's kind of in that Rush Limbaugh category as far as liking to hear himself talk.

I can't stand him either. I've tried listening to him and he kept saying err after everything.

Article on the "lost handshake" after the game (from Fox Sports)...

_________________________________

According to a story on the NFL's official website, the two coaches were supposed to meet at the 25-yard line for the traditional postgame handshake. But apparently there was some confusion about which 25-yard line. According to the report, Cowher went to one, while Holmgren went to the other.

When Holmgren was unable to locate Cowher, he opted to head to the Seahawks locker room.

There had been some question in the Super Bowl aftermath whether Holmgren had snubbed Cowher after losing, especially when Cowher was shown on broadcasts unsuccessfully looking around for the Seahawks' coach to shake his hand after the game.

But according to the report, the two coaches did finally find each other in Seattle's locker room. There, with no cameras to record the moment for posterity, Holmgren did in fact shake Cowher's hand and congratulate him on the win.

Interesting footnote on the blocking below the waste penalty on Hasselback. That actually is a penalty in the rule book. The question was, did he hit the blockers first (a penalty) or hit the ball carrier and then hit the blockers (not a penalty). Here is the excerpt I received from the NFL rules interpretation play scenario book:

"A.R. 12.60 ILLEGAL LOW BLOCK—TACKLING THE RUNNER

Third-and-10 on B20. B1 intercepts A1’s pass on the B10 and returns it with blockers B2 and B3 directly in front of B1. During the return, at the B40, A1 dives low in an attempt to tackle B1, and in the process, A1 first hits B2 and B3 below the waist. a) A1 makes the tackle at the B40, or B) A1 misses the tackle and B1 ultimately runs out of bounds at the 50.

Rulings: a)B’s ball first-and-10 on A45. Illegal low block.

b)B’s ball first-and-10 on A35. Illegal low block. (12-2-12)

NOTE: It doesn’t matter whether A1 is attempting to make the tackle. If he intentionally goes low, and in the process hits an opponent below the waist, it is an illegal low block."

By the way, I can't reveal my source for this information, but I wish I could because you'd all know him and realize how credible it is... This person indicated it was in fact a wrong call because the hit was AFTER the tackle not before, but that it was just a matter of timing, not that the call/rule was bogus like I thought when I heard it.

Incidentally, this same person says the pass interference on Seattle's touchdown takeaway was the right call as its supposed to be called anytime the arms extend and separation is gained...

I was goofin around on petition online and I found a petition that is about the bad calls in the super bowl.

Right now it has around 26,500 votes against the nfl shocked.gifgrin.gif

I am not signing it or anything but just thought it was funny.

Well it must be fixed because every year the Vikings should be winning the superbowl right?

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
