lubing poles on ice shack

Ryan_V

Question

does anyone lube their extension poles on their flip over shacks?? I have a fish trap voyager and I'm thinking I'd like to lube the poles, but I'm wondering what one should use??? silicone....car wax...soap??? any ideas from anyone who has tried?

Yes. I use a little bit of dry silicone spray. I like silicone because it is oil free. I do it a couple of times a year. it does make a difference.

Ditto on the silicone spray. I put some on a rag and wipe down the poles. Makes them slide nicely.

Perhaps you saw the advice of Boss Hogg in a recent Words of Wisdom post:

If it moves, duct tape; if it doesn't move, WD-40. wink.gif

Graphite powder is good, too. The drier the lube, the better. Wet lubes attract dust and dirt, and the eventual friction they produce will make it harder, not easier, to work the poles.

Silicone here too... Another thing I do, is run some steel wool over the poles, especially if they are new. This will take off any excess metal and make them even more smoother then they already are. Lube them up with a bit of Silicone, and your good to go...
