biglake,

What you meant is: If I don't get him this year, he'll still be a shooter "again" next year...

Nice deer!

Just a quick note these pictures are awesome!!! A buddy of mine has had his camera out and developed some pretty intersting pictures a few days ago. He lives in the nothern part of the Iron Range and owns a pretty big chunck of land. His stand is about three miles from the nearest road and pretty much need a wheeler to get with in a mile and a half of it. With all that said he developes the film and sees some nice deer shots flips to the next picture and here are two guys both with beer in hand. Pretty funny look on their faces. He has no clue who they are. Best part of it was the clock shows it was about 2:30AM. Hey they left the camera alone!!! Oh well hope all have a safe and fun season. Thanks for getting me all pumped with the shots.

Man did I get pics on the cameras over the last 2 weeks!

I am up to 7 different bucks identified in just the last 2 weeks alone. Picked up some 35mm pics tonight and found 2 new bucks I have not seen at all yet this year. This is addicting!!!!!!

Nice 1 biglaker

Very even to say the least.Be nice to get this 1 next year

I been try'n to track down a certain buck moving cams around and stands but he has'nt shown himself during hunting hours.

This morning i set my blind up along a hay field to see if he was any where near this location. After seeing several deer at day break it was dead as dead gets so i unzipped my door and walked outside.Looked behind the blind there he was nose to the ground heading my way.

Got my bow ready as he got about 75 yards away he started to zig-zag and never got any closer. So i grabbed my digital camera and took a pic just incase i never see him again.I'll post the pic tomarrow

Been finally getting a few pics out in my food plot of some buck activity. They've really started to move in the last week.

First pic shows a couple smaller bucks that ran into each other on my plot. The buck on the left almost looks comical with that small perfect rack on that larger body.

They decided to do a little sparring...

Then there was this guy who was there the night before, not a huge buck, but it's nice to see he's roaming around. Actually looks like his neck is getting swollen.

Caught this 10 pointer coming in just before dark. Hope he shows himself during daylight next weekend!

I thought the flash had spooked this spike, until I looked closer. Notice the red fox in the background.

Yet another buck that I have not seen on camera until now.

6pt4jc.jpg

If he is indeed a 6 pt, I'd put this guy on the wall if I got him. Not too many 6pts with antlers outside the ears.

Wow! Wildlife artist Michael Sieve has been tracking the progress of this whitetail deer located right here in MN. This deer has been around for an estimated 5+ years, fueling the dreams of deer hunters for almost that Passing on this deer as a 1.5 year old makes this possible. If this isn't justification for passing on the yearling bucks and tagging a doe then I don't know what is.

An interesting note:

Mike passed on a different deer that looked like this deer's 3.5 yr photo. The deer walked right under his stand and stopped in a shooting lane only 10 yrds from his tree. He said if he wasn't after the Big Boy he wouldn't have thought twice about taking that fine deer.

Good Luck Mike .........this deer will look great in a painting

The neighbor got this on his trail camera, among other people using their land recently.

Nice way to teach a kid, eh? Notice the uncased gun as they ride.

I was at Gander tonight in Bemidji and the manager brought me over to the Archery section and showed me some pictures that were taken with some trial cams. One had 7 timbers in it and another had a Buck on another Buck. I guess he was ready and could not find a doe in heat.

If you are heading North through Bemidji, stop in and check them out! grin.gif

Good luck out there and be safe.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
