I was just wondering if anybody had anything to say about Pinnacle reels. I was looking at buying one this summer sometime.

They make several nice spinning reels. I guess if it were me doing the buying and I was set on one of these, I'd spend my money on one from the mid to upper price range.

I have a Pinnacle Deadbolt spinning reel, and it is one of my favorites...very nice, smooth, and fairly inexpensive reel for the quality.

The upper level ones are nice.

Pinnicles are decent but (I am not a Silstar fan) but for the money I would go for a nice Shimano. Just My opinion, I have used everything and shimano holds up the best and performs the best.

I agree with Tom Go for Broke they make a good product as long as you spring for the best I've found ya get what ya pay for when it comes to high end reels even. My good ol quantum ss are always there in emergencys though they have never failed me except for a certain toothy critter that weighed about 20+ pounds on my ss that finally laid it to rest after many years of good service and an ugly stick Now theres A combo. Any one know how to overhaul a quantumn ss with a smoked drag I tried it and no luck yet getting it back in one piece at liest with any drag yet J/K shes toast but snetimental like the spirex 4000 hanging on the nail in my garage nut toast too. Another piece of advice don't bring your good stuff to canada you'll regret it. I used many shimanos and they are great too but the bearings can and will go bad if you use them hard!! Quantum ss gets my vot I can buy 5 of them for the price of a real sweet shimano. That would be like equal to 50 years of service I'd bet!! grin.gif I can't spell and too cold and tired too edit it tonite I was retarded and took my boat out tonight lol

I've got a Deadbolt Pro that I've had for a few years that I use for panfish and I love it.

I have two Pinnacle Alyssa spinning reels. I think they work great. Paid 69 for one on sale and 79 for another. Received a flyer from Cabelas last week that said they had some on sale for 59. Would be a good deal if they haven't sold out. I believe they have quit making the Alyssa, but I don't believe its because of poor quality.

I HAD two pinnacle deadbolts but the anti-reverse wore out on both. Now I fish with the more elite Alyssa but had to send it in for repairs last season. I do not endorse Silstar. Has anyone else had problems with the deadbolts or alyssa's? Personally, I'd recommend the pflueger president. I saw them at gander for $60 the other day and almost picked up another cause that was cheapr than when i bought mine. I think they're a sweet reel. You can't find a better 10 ball bearing reel for that kinda price. If anyone knows of one, lemme know, I'll take a dozen!

matt. we had that problem too. had to send two in.( one deadbolt and one silstar) but haven't had any trouble with them for a number of years, but if i was going to buy a new eeel. it would NOT be a pinnacale !

Eyehunter10,

Actually shimano dosent have as many ball bearings as silstar at each price point, but they don't skimp on gearing like silstar does. You can feel the diference shimanos are smooth and thight and silstar's are smooth and loose. This is all in the gearings. And gearing is just as important as bearings.

I have a couple deadbolts, one is a limited. I would not buy another one. I was surprised to see so many positive posts at first.

I really liked my pinnacles when I first bought them but they decline quickly with much time and use. I'll second the problems of the anti reverse and the quality of the gears/bearings. Just because a reel has a more bearings, it does not make it a better reel if the component quality is poor.

Unfortunately, I have several friends and relatives that bought deadbolts on my recommendation after I first got mine and they are also dissapointed with the reel after a couple seasons use.

For the same price range, there are much better reels as mentioned.

I have had my pinnacle deadbolt since 97? or 98.. used it for everything cats, walleye, panfish, northern, bass, carp you get the point.. I have not had one problem with that reel and it is the only one I had until last year. I have used it in the river and on lakes used it in the summer and in the winter I do not take great care of my equipment but I know I can always depend on my pinnacle deadbolt!!! cool.gif

In case anyone cared, I finally got my new reel last Wed. I ended up going with a Shimano Symetre; the guy at Reeds said they didn't sell Pinnacle anymore because they kept getting returned. Now I just have to wait for a dry weekend to go try her out! Thanks everyone for the input and help.

that reel will last you for a very long time, plus it is an awsome reel! i've had mine for ? ( can't remember!) a very good choice.

Like Jarrod32 I also have a Pinnacle Deadbolt reel. I've had it for about 4 years, with no problems. Its just as smooth and reliable as when I first bought it.

I have an Alyssa, and it is one of the best spinning reels I've ever used, not to mention it looks really nice. I paid 89 bucks for it, and it's worth every cent. If I can find another one or two, I'll definately buy more.

Dead bolts were nothing but trouble for me.

I still have 3 of them---moth balled

I dumped them a couple years ago.

Switched to Shimano stradic 2500's

I've also had trouble with the Dead Bolts. They lasted about 2 seasons. Shimano is the way to go. - Vern

I use some deadbolts, dnf 25's and 30's. These have been great to me, winter and summer and I would have to say they have held up as well or better than most other reels I have used at a simular pricing. I pretty much only buy mid price spinning reels $40-70, and the mid priced Shimanos have gone clunky on me alot sooner than these dnf's have???

I have two deadbolts and I would not recommend them, the Absolutle is just cheap and not good for much, and the Pro's anti-reverse works some of the time. I would stay away from all Pinnacle Spinning reels. Spend the extra 40-50 bucks and get a nice Diawa. Shimanos seam nice but I have never had one.

Table is updated below.  Opening day is likely in jeopardy.  Lots of good dates available for those sitting on the sideline.

That's ok, got the Bear hunting out of my system years ago.  Still have some good spots on the GPS up in the Arrow head!  Did love me some good greasy bear roasts though!  😋

Yes, I'm on the West End.  No crappies yet, but I caught a couple of Cisco's and some perch this morning. Been dealing with chores at the cabin since 10 AM, so not much fishing.

10 inches of snow in cook this morning. 53 was pretty messy

Hard to tell exactly how much snow the way the wind was blowing it around, close to that I'll bet!  3 sleds went by earlier. Brian, are you on the west end? Did you fish?  Catch any crappies?

I was on the lake this morning. There is still a lot of ice. I went down to the housing on my auger a couple of times.  I'm not sure how much snow we got yesterday and last night but it looks like around 7 to 8 inches at least.
