any fishing reports?

Recommended Posts

Hows everyone doing? Is anyone catching much of anything? Any lakes that the fish are jumping out of the holes? We have not been doing so great but havn't been putting in much time. But we have got two perch. I guess its just good time spent on the ice. Much better than just sitting inside.

child23~You're right, it's better spending time out fishing than not! What lake have you been hitting?

There are many smaller lakes in the area that are producing some nice panfish, along with the occassional walleye and pike. As I posted the other day, Blackduck Lake is producing some walleyes and northerns in the 14-18' depths sporadically throughout the afternoon, (not a set time or pattern~the winds and the constant change of the pressure has things off and on), while the perch bite has been happening in the shallower waters (10-11'), but they're not jumping out of the holes! As the ice is thickening up on Upper Red Lake, folks are starting to head out farther towards the deeper waters where some crappies are being caught, while those looking for pike are doing better in the shallower water (6-10').

All and all the ice in the area at the different lakes is running anywhere from 9-14" thick, and with the upcoming subzero temps (The coldest days being Tuesday and Wednesday with lows forecasted at -22 to -30) they should keep getting thicker at a pretty good clip.
