The big pond is frozen

I drove past mille lacs yesterday and it frozen as far as i could see. That on 169. So i called my dad who lives on the east side south of malmo and he said it was frozen on that side also. With the temps below zero tonight it should be enough to get a portable out there. I'm heading up today to catch some eye's.

It is Good to hear that the pond is finally ice convered. Hopefully these cold temps keep up for a while and soon enough the lake will be free reign to atvs and shortly after it (hopefully) we will be able to take vehicles. Now I will admit it had been a tough inter so far but when do you guys think that we will have adequate ice for driving out there? Hopefully it won't be too long. Well good luck KPP and let us know how she treats ya.

Hold it boys! I just spent an hour drinking coffee with Kari Hough of Garrison Sports watching a very wide area of open water about a mile off shore from Garrison. Kari and his son-in-law fished in 12 feet Friday with limited success. The ICE IS MOVING so be very careful. Judging from the weather forecast, Christmas weekend should be great.

Drove the west shore about noon. The wind is pushing the ice around. Many slots of open water with a siginifacant open area out of Garrison. Be careful out there!

I was up making the final repairs to the house before it goes out and there was quite a bit of open water from Rocky Reef over to Indian Point. Hopefully the wind will calm down and this cold snap will heal things up and drive the ice down. I'm getting tired of being on shore but the house will be going out either right before or after Xmas and for the last 26 years that I've put a house out, that's about average.

Ok here is what i know on the east side. I fish out of my parents place 2 miles south of malmo. There is 9 to 11 inches of ice about a half mile out. The ice is very rough and uneven. We saw a house that was out of lakeside that was about 2 miles out. Saw some nice eyes on the aquaview and a bunch of little perch. The eyes didn't like the camera and wouldn't come in to even to check the bait out. We didn't check the ice thickness past a half mile so i don't know how thick it is but with this wheather it should be setting up good for this weekend. But as always be carefull and be prepared. Good luck if you go out this weekend and have a good Christmas.

The lake opened up again on the north end yesterday. It froze last night, hopefully we don't get the strong NW wind to open it up again. Made it out to 9 feet of water on 12 inches of ice. Ice was only 4 inches just past my portable with open water 200 yards away. Had one on at 4:10 pm, but lost it. Lots of perch. It was very cold on the lake last night. Had the sunflower on high and my holes were still freezing in seconds, in my trap. blush.gif
