Any new news on ice on Ottertail?

Recommended Posts

I saw a few people out on the lake on my way home tonight. Anybody have any new updates on ice thickness?

Thanks!

Thanks, Frabill. I'm heading out in the morning on that account. Good luck to all.

Decided I didn't want to be blown all over the lake. It's just not worth getting the portable all bent up in the hurricane.

Anyone have current ice reports for OT, I'm heading up for Christmas and was wondering if I'd be able to drive out to the first break from Pelican Bay.

I saw some wheelers out there. I don't know for sure if it'll be ready for cars or trucks. I did see a Ford F150 parked on the ice right by the access shoreline at Pelican Bay. I'll try to keep you posted as the week moves on.

I am in the middle of the lake on the west side. 8 1/2 good inches last night. With the cold temps this week, I would guess people will be driving by then, I will stick to the 4 wheeler, still lots of cracks.

One thing that should be metioned is the shape of the ice. I was going to fish OT on sunday but when I got out there the ice was so rough it was like Superman's fortress of solitude...ice spires and shards sticking straight out like mother natures razor wire. On a four wheeler i'm sure it's fine but pulling my portable with all my stuff packed on top, I dont thik so...then I figured once I got out there it would be all uneven and noisy anyways so I went to Walker lake. Managed 9 nice crappies, 2 keeper eyes..some small throw back perch, 4 northerns...3 hammerhandles and one went 33" oh and probably my biggest tullibee to date..not sure how big..but it was big. So what could of been a bust turned out pretty nice. The ice was 8-10 inches..they'll be driving in no time.
