Well I finally hit the ice. Headed out a little late with Buddy Hillman out of thier landing. The ice was 6 to 8 inches with a little snow on the ice. We moved a hard sided house to a secret spot smile.gif and got a line in the water about 630. We caught 4 right away and missed a bunch more. The walleyes were biting on a Angel Eye and minnow head. Then came the freezing rain. It rained pretty hard for a while and we figured we better head in. Oh yeah not to mention the wind was blowing about 40mph! Well buddy got us off the ice OK. Sun wasnt much better. The rain turned to snow and the wind turned up a little. I attempted to go out on a sled and had no signal on my GPS. The snow was horizontal and visability was nil. That took care of sun. I did play with a new toy on sat though and was pretty impressed with it. www.fish-n-chum.com It kept the hands free for other activities as eating and having a beverage of choice. Jigging is easy if your cold too!;) It was nice to keep the rods off the floor.

We had some folks on Upper Red on 12/11 (and some were up Monday) doing some pike fishing and they did very well, fishing in the 6' depths and the 10' depths with tip ups.

We've got a couple of those fish-n-chums heading our way, they look pretty interesting. especially the way it keeps your hands free and your not proppin the pole on buckets, the floor, etc. When it came time to start reelin em in, how did you like them?

Drake, believe it or not I actually set the hook on a walleye with the rod still in the holder. Then its as simple as grabbing the rod, and a nice thing is its off the floor/ice so the line didnt freeze. Im going to suggest they put a beverage holder on them too! wink.gif Or Ill have to modify mine.
