Mounting Runners on a Fish Trap Sled

cjac

Question

I'm getting ready to put the runners on a sled. Anyone done this recently? Picked up a heat gun, should it be pretty straight forward? Any tips and/or suggestions from experience will be much appreciated.

One more thought...anyone know a "ice making" dance? Bring on some cold temps!

I just put a set on my Guide Trap. It was pretty easy.

I used a propane torch to heat the bend area. Tip the sled on its side (lean it up next to truck). Position a runner at the front of the sled to figure out where to apply heat. I heated the side that mates to the sled - not the hifax side. Keep the heat source constantly moving. Heat until it is very hot to touch. Use foot to hold end down and bend back. Bend back further than needed, it will spring back. Check for proper bend against sled. May need to re-apply heat and re-bend.

Getting the first hole in the right spot is the most important (2 people would have been nice). After that, just work your way to the back.
