Minneapolis Lakes Ice

Recommended Posts

Anyone been by the Mpls. lakes the last couple of days? I live on the other side of Mpls. now, so I don't se them every night on the way home, anymore. I'm hoping that Isles might be ready to go this weekend. I know Calhoun will be a while yet. Seems like it's always the last lake in town to freeze.

If anyone has checked it out, please reply.

Thanks.

As of yesterday noon, Isles was 3/4 open, only the north bay had ice on it and even that was a little iffy. Calhoun was wide open.

Checked again this morning (Wed)

Nokomis, Hiawatha, and Isles still 100% Covered!

Harriet and Calhoun had in fact blown open again, maybe 5-20% covered, certainly not going to be fishable anytime soon.

Friday 9AM Report:

Isles, Nokomis, and Hiawatha: still 100% covered, probably fishable soon, I haven't checked the thickness

Calhoun and Harriet: 80-90% skim iced over. Some calm and cold should lock it up.

If anyone checks the thickness on Isles, please post. I may run over and check it out, tomorrow. Would like to get out tomorrow evening if possible.

If it's good, anyone interested?

Drove by Harriet and Calhoun this morning and both are wide open. A little ice along the shores but that's it. crazy.gif I'd like to hear the results of a Lake of the Isles ice test. cool.gif

Checked Isles, today. It's completely covered, but not too thick, yet. I went out about 30 ft with a chisel and punched a couple holes. Ice is about 2 1/2" thick.

Not real comfy for me, being alone.

Should be good in a couple of days.

Went past nokomis tonight and there was an ice house on the west side of the lake(about 30 feet from shore). Also two of my buddys have ventured out to check the ice in the last few days there and told me there was about 2-2 1/2 inches(not too far off of shore maybe 20-30 feet if that).
