Walleye on Winnie

Recommended Posts

We have a group going to Winnie the second weekend in January staying near the North end. Along with some perch fishing, we were hoping to find some walleye. Does anyone have tips on where we should start to find the walleye?

come jan. I would look at the top of the humps out on the north end or in cutfoot I wood look at some of the bars like table top or bobs and fish the tops

Also going up the second weekend. Are the bigger perch located in the same locations as the walleyes this time of year. Last time I was at Winnie (5 years ago) we fished later in the year and in deep water. Fishing was better than average.

I really appreciate the info Jason. I am not looking for the spot on the spot but it is nice to have a place to get started. I was reading on another post about the panfish in Cutfoot. Are they worth trying for or would you say stick to the perch and eyes? The two of us are going to be staying at Starcks Tamarack Lodge. Are there any areas that you would recomend to start Ice Leaders weekend?

Cutfoot is great for panfish. I have a bluegill mounted from there that was over a pound. The best bite we have found is early in the morning. But it lasts pretty much all day. We have done well on panzies using horizontal jigs, waxies and maggies.

I usally post on this lake. I get to fish it about 10 or so times a winter. We like to hit it for a couple of hours before we go on a perch search. If you go back in the archives on this site I think you will find some of my posts. grin.gif

Jason-

Thanks for the help. We are looking forward to some Pirch and walleye fishing. We may also try Cutfoot for panfish. Where is the best access for Cutfoot to find the panfish?

for the event I would stick to the humps on the north or middle of the lake. the best access is williams narrows landing and go straight out for the craps

  • 2 weeks later...

This will be the 4th year our group comes to Winnie(Feb. 7-12) and we are looking for any help on locating some walleyes. We've only caught 2 total in our first 3 trips, so we definitely need some help. We are staying at Becker's resort on the West Side and would appreciate any direction you can give us. Thank you very much!
