I am planning to go up to the inlaws place this weekend and was wondering if anyone has been on Island Lake? And what and where are they bitting?

Welcome Salmon, Haven't heard of anyone out fishing on island. I am guessing it hasn't safely iced up yet. But if you are going to be in the area this weekend we will have alot of FM'ers getting together right next door to Island at Fish Lake. Check out the Fish Lake Get Together thread.

If you are talking Island Lake North of Duluth I would be very careful if you did try it. We havent had much cold up here until the past 2 days. Bring a spud and a bud and where a life vest.

No way there is 10" of ice on Island Lake! There isnt even 6" on most of fish lake and its way smaller and shallower. People are walking out on Boulder. Fishing is spotty from my reports.

I wouldn't travel Island lake yet but if this cold weather sticks around this weekend should be doable.

What part if the lake is your in-laws cabin?

I went out from the launch near the (Contact US Regarding This Word) on Saturday (the 18th) and drilled a hole. I didn't have a tape measure with me but it seemed to be about 10 inches thick. I have no idea how thick it would be out near the currents. It should get thicker after tonights cold blast.

I went out to Island lake Tuesday evening to check on ice thickness so I could get my ice house from the cabin (the cabin's on an island). I walked 25 steps, drilled and measured, walked another 25 steps drilled and measured, repeated till I reached the island and it was a consistent 12 inches thick. I was pretty surprised. So I went out there on Wednesday (yesterday), drove out with the jeep and hauled the ice house of the island successfully. I brought the ice house on to Caribou, set up a mailbox grin.gif and took residency. See you in March !

mudman,

I'm sure it is not the Island lake you are talking about. They are talking about Island lake north of Duluth. Part of the Mn. Power group of reservoirs.

Take care smile.gif,
