Was wanting to try Laker fishing through the ice this year and was looking at Snowbank Lake. Since part of the lake is in the BWCA is there any restrictions with 4 wheeler/snowmobile/ Vehicles on parts of the lake? Is this a good lake for Lakers?

Hey Neiko. Since we're a little shy on laker lakes up here, Snowbank does make the mark. I haven't however had alot of luck out there for them. Seen some nice fish but they didn't come out of my shack. We're having a little laker get together on Burntside Jan 29. It's an ICE Series event and everyone is welcome. I spend most my time on Burntside for lakers and it seems to be paying off. Wish I had more info for ya on Snowbank. Yes, there are restrictions on half the lake. Call Smitty's On Snowbank for more accurate reports and ice conditions.

Chunkytrout, Thanks for the info. I would like to get upthere for the bash. Sounds like fun and I am known to have a horsehoe up my u no what so hopefully I could walk a way with a prize. Are there restrictions for Burntside? What is the best means of travel on the lake? Where does on begin on learning how to ice fish Lakers?

There are no restrictions on Burntside and travelling can be pretty easy as there are usually a few roads you can drive on.

The Burntside Bash is a great place to learn about laker fishing. Most people use somewhat the same deep water presentation. A good assortment of jigging spoons and dead ciscoe seems to work best for me. Some people use tubes or airplanes but I've never had much luck with them. You should try to make it up as it would give a great view into fishing lakers through the ice. Come find me or ST and we'll get you started off on the right foot. Last year I don't think anyone left empty handed as far as prizes go. Good luck and hope to see you there.

Neiko- Snowbank Lake is a decent lake to try for lake trout. Use to go there every winter during my UMD days! Smitty's was the place and Pinic Point was the spot! You'll have to ask Smitty the where abouts that place is on a lake map. Plan on at least a good 30-45 minute walk....depending on where he plows his road to (That can change from year to year). Otherwise from the access, I believe you go straight and to your right to get the the NW side of the lake and start finding your drop offs. Good Luck!
