Anyone get out fishing on the ice this weekend?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone found some good ice to get out and fish on this weekend? I wish there was more ice I am dying to get out on the ice. Hopefully by next weekend.

Still too much water-skiing surface even on small lakes for my taste. I'm hoping for next weekend too. Taking the kids to the Dells for a couple days of water-parking, that'll give me chance to stop obsessing about the temp for 72 hours or so.

Saturday drove till I found ice. Finally in chisago county.

Pretty hairy thou,1 lake will have ice then across the highway that lake is wide open.Fished 4 lakes through the day with pretty good luck.Mixed bag of gills/crappies,& a couple nice eyes.

Sunday was hard.VERY slow bite & windy as aaaa......

Decided to head home when I heard a bunch of noise on the ice, well I flipped the trap open & I had a 8' x 8' wood fence coming for me.Missed the trap by less then 10'.

I really wish I could have seen my face.

ANYONE GOING OUT,BE SAFE.

Well it started at the landing about 4".After I got on the "Gin clear" ice it was unsafe. It was only 2 1/2" max.

BUT BEFORE EVERYONE CHEWS ME OUT !OR ANYONE DOES THIS PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING.

Early ice(under 3") I wear a life jacket that I can pull the "rip cord" on.Then,I have chest waders on.Then,I wear my float tube (belly boat).I have broke through and it's a bear to get out BUT !And I really mean this...

I'm still alive(I love a little common sense).

This was taught to me by a good friend (Pat Smith) and he calls it "The squeek cheek shuffle".

had to drive an hour up to mora to find thick enough ice to hold me. got a decent pike and afew sunnies.quamba is a good place to go cause you don't have to go far from the launch. couple of guys caught a couple of ten pound pike on tip ups saturday, 50 yards out from the launch. we went out a little farther and there was a good 5 inches even with the 35 mph wind the ice held together,at least while we were there until dark. good luck!
