Does anyone know how thick the ice is on Big Toad? I am thinking about driving up from the Anoka area if the ice is safe enough to walk out on. Thanx!

My folks live on Big Toad. There is some ice, but also open water as of a couple of days ago. Dad said that there was some fool out about 400 yards from shore a week ago last Friday in a portable, but there was open water about 100 yards past him, he couldn't have been sitting on more than 2-3". Too thin for me to be out that far.

I was down there on Thanksgiving and there was only ice out about 100 yard from shore, walked out a little ways and knocked a hole with the spud bar and it was only about a inch and a half. I'm sure there is more now, but keep in mind that there have been a lot of area lakes that have froze all the way across, but have opened back up in the last week or so, Boyer is one of them.

Not sure if this will help much, just be careful if venturing out. Maybe stop down at the Toad Lake Store and ask some of the Local Yocals about the ice before going out.

Eyehunter... Thanx for the reply. I will give it another week or so before I drive up there. I have never ice fished Big Toad but have done very well summer fishing it.
