Winnie is know for excellent perch and walleye action, as well as some trophy pike. Eelpout, tulibee, crappies, bluegills and bass are also present. A very well-rounded lake and I expect to see some nice fish brought in.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have and I hope to see you there! smile.gif

Winnie was a blast last year! With the knowledge shared by Jeff Beckwith and Jason Boser and others there was alot of good fishing to be had. I was out in a group with Jason and he put us on the fish. I think the winner was also in that group. I caught a 12# Pike and a 25 1/2 Walleye(in protected slot. I released both prior to wiegh-in.

Who's gonna make it to this one? Who want the trophy?

I will be at my second winter home "Winnie" for this event as well. This is a great lake and this event is always fun too.

We have our first trip to Winnie planned for that weekend. We're staying at High Banks but I'm getting worried about the ice. Anyone care to take a guess as to what we might be looking at for ice by then?

Are they going to be giveing away a Marcum and an Otter portable and all of the other cool stuff as door prizes like last year?

Last year my kid won some of the ratso's and we hammered the crappies on em in the spring. Now I got a bunch of em.

I got lucky and won a ATV rack for an ice auger. Cool stuff!

I think almost everybody won something or another as door prizes. laugh.gif

How many people are expected to be there? I'm planning on making it there for my first ICE series event. I can't wait, it sounds like a lot of fun. What are the rules as far as transportation, can you drive out?

Joe,

Last year we had, oh, rough guess maybe 225 people. You are not limited in your tranportation in any way...as long as it's legal grin.gif

You can get information on rules and registration right here

Some of the Duluth guys and I are planning on meeting up Friday night for a few cocktails. Probably the Gosh Dam Place or maybe Blueberry Bowl in Deer River. Check back here or the Duluth forum to see where Friday night's meeting spot is.

Hey Brian,

You know I'll be there. Does 4:00pm still sound good? Have you been able to get any pre-fishing in? I hope you had a good time with your kids over the break, now it's time to do some fishing. That's if it's o.k. with the misses. It's getting close I'll have to fish every day this week to keep my mind busy.

Take care bud cool.gif,

Tom (BD110)

Hey Frank,

It'll be good to see you again too. I'm gonna try to make it out there this week and try a couple new GPS spots I just got from a buddy. It should be a good time for sure. Are you going to get a chance to fish at all?

4:00 still sounds good Tom. I've gotta work till 6, but you can hop in the squad and ride around for a while if ya' want. Hopefully we'll have the new squad on the road then.

Just got off of the phone with Pat from Denny's . As it stands right now if you have a wheeler or sled you should bring them. We are optimistic with this weeks temps that he will have a road going out about 1 1/2 miles. We could spread out there. That would put us plenty close to some prime areas.

Denny's will be open @ 6:30 that morning and will have coffee and donuts available for purchase. He will have bait available as well. (Waxies, red eurolarvae, fatheads and tip-up minnows)

Folowing the contest and awards ceremony we will be having a giant fish fry for all contestants and staff members. Donated fish from the event will be gladly accepted. Cost for this dinner will be $5.00 per person and will include fish, potatoes and all the fixin's. It was awesome last year. The fish fry will start @ 6:30 to give those who want to fish the evening walleye bite a chance to do so and still be able to enjoy the fish fry and camraderie.

Come out and enjoy the day with us. You will find out that "We have more fun"

Thanks Paul for checking the situation out!

Is anyone going to be fishing Friday and or Sunday that would be willing to pull my Otter out for Me and My fam. on those days. Maybe we could tag teem on those perch and eyes. grin.gif Even if they are driveing on the lake maybe you could show me where to go anyway! grin.gif

Thanks, See ya there!

HoleHopper-

I'll be fishing the majority of Sunday (morning through mid-afternoon). Could possibly help you out also. I think you'll find plenty of people willing to lend a hand.

I've got a tow hitch on the sled & rigid hitch for the Otter. I don't have a 2 up seat so the sled ride would be a little uncomfortable.

I've got a bright green Arctic Cat ZR600. Come say hi!

I talked with kim of high banks tonight there is enough ice to plow roads the bad thing is the snow is pretty deep so you might have to stay on the roads

but she said the fish are biting on the north humps

Pat @ Denny's has a road going out 3 miles and they will be working on extending it tomorrow. They have a good 17 inches of ice. Off road travel is only by snowmobile or wheeler, due to slush pockets.
