Ice Conditions??

Well, I am thinking about making a trip up there this weekend and wondering if the smaller lakes have fishable ice yet? Thank for the input.

Small lakes, yes some ice. Large lakes, no. I have only seen one person ice fishing on a small lake. This lake had 4-5" of ice.

ChuckN- Do you know of anybody hitting Crane of Eagle yet? I'm assuming Crane is probably fishable, but not Eagle.

I don't make an effort to check on Crane since I can't get access to it.

Eagle is a late lake to freeze, so I suspect it's wide open.

What bites over at Crane?

Went by Lizzie, Sallie, Lida today open water in the center and dark fingers in various places. Be careful could be a late start. Talked to my son in Grand Marais, small lakes 4-7" big lakes still open in places. I guess time for more work on the old fish house.

You pretty much have to know a property owner, no public access.

My grandpa knows several people that live on the lake, so thats my access point. I hope it stays like that. I would hate to see that little gem get overrun with a public access.

BLB...You're right! Nothing bites on Crane. Hardly ever catch a dang thing out there.

BLB, we have a cabin on crane also. Going to try it weekend for the first time ice fishing. It should be fun.
