45 degree auger ?

psegriz

Question

I don't know what they are called or if they're still made. Seen then at the ice show 4-5 yrs ago. It attaches to your auger, drill your hole a blade pops out. keep drilling while pulling up a few inches push back down and blade pops up. It's supposed to 45 the bottom of your hole to make it easier to turn fish up. What are they? How do they work? Where could a guy get one?

I only saw them around for a couple of years. I understand there were some issues of the coning blade not folding up sometimes, and then it was a real bear to get your auger out of the hole.

Great idea, but it just did not seem to catch on.

I can't remember what they were called either. I bought one a few years ago. On my first trip out with it, it did not retract correctly as mentioned above. I ws then left with my augr down the hole and no way to get it back out. Luckily, there was only 12" of ice. I was able to slide my ice scoop handle down in there and force the blade to retract. When I got home, I promptly removed it from my auger and took it back to where it was purchased. Judging from the comments the cashier made when I returned it, I was not the first person to have a problem.

I had one, used it one day on kab. Had the same problems, it would not release under the ice. I have seen a few around at some stores, DO NOT WAIST YOUR MONEY.The next day before we headed out it came off and I returned it.

I saw one at the show. It looked like it would only fit a jiffy style auger. I can't remember if it was at the reeds booth or whoever was next to them. The device made a 45 bevel at the bottom of your hole.
